Description
(Please see my 'Goldfields Railway DSG 3059' page for information on the real-life GR).

This re-skin is based on the 2nd of two Baguley-Drewry 0-4-0 shunters in Waihi. Said engine is No. 3652, and she was built in 1968. Today the locomotive is painted dark blue with wasp stripes on each end.

It's the same design as the normal Goldfields engine - Baguley Drewry No. 3650, but 3652 is not normally used as the passenger engine. However, there was a time - back in July 2018 - when I saw 3652 hauling the passenger train. And now for some information behind the locomotive who's number is carried on this re-skin.

DSG 3074 was built by Toshiba of Japan in 1982, first running in Christchurch in March of that year. She was the 8th member of a 24-strong class to enter service, and the DSG's were designed for heavy shunting and short trip-workings on the mainline. An example of the former is moving freight wagons around at Mount Maunganui, while an example of the latter is the shunt from Napier to Hastings.

All members of the DSG class were delivered in the International Orange livery (see my 'DSG 3249 Original Condition' re-skin to get an idea of what that looks like), and they never carried pre-TMS era road numbers because they all entered service after the Traffic Monitoring System was introduced in 1978/79.

DSG 3074 continued running in the International Orange/Fruit Salad livery up until 1997, when she was sent to Hutt Workshops in Wellington for a repaint in Tranz Rail blue. Around the same time, the locomotive was fitted with shunter's refuges, which allow the driver to stand outside the cab and drive the locomotive by means of a remote control. All 24 DSG's received this modification, as did the six DH's and (insert number here) DSC's.

The locomotive continued to serve as a shunter throughout the North Island. She made it through the Toll Rail era (2003 to 2008) without ever receiving the so-called 'Corn Cob' livery. It wasn't until December 2010 when DSG 3074 was repainted again; this time receiving KiwiRail colours. For whatever reason, 3074 was repainted in KiwiRail colours for a second time in December 2017.

Today DSG 3074 is now 38 years old, but still in operation as a reliable member of KiwiRail's fleet. As far as I know, 3074 is currently based in New Plymouth for use on the 'port shunt', which runs from Smart Road yard to Port Taranaki.

Huh, more Goldfields stuff! I think I might actually make a layout for this.
