Brighton Belle & British Pullmans

Description
Southern Railway 5-BEL 'Brighton Belle' and British Pullmans

This mod pack features the Southern Railway's 5-BEL unit, with matching British Pullman carriages with which you can create the full 5-BEL Brighton Belle set.

The 5-BEL is a third rail electric unit, which doesn't exist in the game - however, in order to mimic the behaviour of a third rail electric, the game files recognise it as a diesel, just with electric sound files. I've also made sure that the contact shoes on the bogies fit correctly with Agohonoh's UK Third Rail tracks.

I've also thrown in a brake third variant (in both directions) of the Pullman carriage, so you can use the Pullmans in other forms.

The full list of variants is as follows:
SR 5-Bel powered car (both directions)
British Pullman First Class Carriage
British Pullman Third Class Carriage
British Pullman Brake Third (both directions)
British Pullman Kitchen First
British Pullman First Class Bar

Comes with all the standard bells and whistles - aging, tinting, placeable assets and so on. (Just a quick note on the tinting, but if you can't notice it at first, its because the curtains inside the carriages are what gets recoloured. I preferred this over recolouring the carriages themselves, as I felt it kind of contradicted the fact that British Pullmans had a standard livery regardless of what railway they operated on.)

Also note that the 2100 withdrawal date is due to the fact that a lot of Pullmans are still in service as a part of heritage trains and the like, and the 5-BEL is about to undergo testing. I've also bumped the maximum speed of the Pullman carriages up so that you can use it with all kinds of trains - even a maxed out Mallard A4 - without being limited if you so desire.

I'm still not wholly finished with this, so I'm hoping to add the observation car from the Devon Belle. Also planned is a BR blue reskin, so I'll be adding to this frequently!

Features

Comes complete with:
-Aging,
-Colour tinting,
-Group menu in rail depot to reduce clutter,
-Placeable rail assets
-Animated doors
-Interior decorations

Constructive feedback is always welcome, and I love reading your comments, so if you have any notes on what I can improve, or just want to leave a nice message, by all means please leave a post below! However, I'm not currently taking requests - I've already got a shortlist of about a dozen different projects I'm working on - so if you have a locomotive or vehicle you desperately want to see in game, it's best to leave a post in the Workshop forum for other modders to see and consider for their own future projects. :)

There's mods that add 3rd rail now! perhaps make an actual electric version to accommodate this?

UPDATE: Small adjustment to the gloss textures.

Quick update to fix some busted mesh and texture map issues, particularly on the kitchen and bar coaches. I've also widened the body of all variants by about 5% - you probably won't notice it, but it means their width profile fits in more neatly with several other coach mods.

Hello, can I used them to do a reskin ? I'm looking for passenger coaches looking similar to those in Thomas & Friends (especially the Green/Red Express, Special Express and Connor & Caitlin coaches) and yours are the only ones that got a similar base. I just need to reskin them to make them match the series.

UPDATE: Pretty large mesh edits, though the overall visual changes are pretty minimal - basically I cut the ends off all variants and rebuilt the end shapes to be more accurate, and adjusted the walkway connectors so that they now fit with most other connectors in that era - So this fits pretty well with JK's GWR carriages, PlaneSimple's MK1 carriages, as well as my A3/A4/P2 corridor tenders now.

Small update, hopefully to help accommodate some bigger updates in the near future. Updated the texture and gloss maps a little, and completely redid the roof textures and normals into something that looks a bit nicer. Also added new, better looking) walkway connectors.

any news on the devon belle observation coach?
Green Ranger (aka Gr1m)  [author] 21 Aug, 2021 @ 7:12pm
Nope, nvm, I miosunderstood. Unfortunately thats a problem due to how I mapped the original carriages, and the only solution is to remap one side of them to new textures. Which I'm not against, but bleh, effort lol.

Leave it with me. I'm in lockdown atm so I've got time.
