Description
(For information about the A.C.E. service, see the Altamont Corridor Express V8 page).

As well as the six F40PH-3C and four SC-44 locomotives, the Altamont Corridor Express also has a fleet of 29 passenger cars. These are all Bombardier Bi-Level stock, with 8 of them being cab-cars. A cab-car is a standard passenger coach with a driver's cab at one end. These allow for push-pull operation of a locomotive-hauled train, which is a very common practice on U.S. commuter trains.

A.C.E. trains normally have the cab-car on the northern end, with the locomotive on the southern end. The locomotive hauls the train when it's heading to San Jose, and propels the train north back to Stockton. The driver sits in the cab of the cab-car and operates the locomotive from there.

Originally there were 30 passenger cars in the Altamont Corridor Express fleet, but this was reduced to 29 in March 2016. Cab-car No. 3309 was damaged beyond repair and scrapped after the Sunol mudslide de-railment.
