[WOTC] Shield Vests

Description
WOTC version -- Adds Shield Vests into the game.
This is an adaptation of Kenshin's long-abandoned "Shield Vest" mod (but updated for WOTC) and LionsFate's "Cheat Vest" mod.

Shield Vests can be purchased from Engineering. All variants recharge 1 SP per turn.

There are currently 25+ different variants that do cool things, like add Armor, Sustain, Regeneration, Grappling hook, and more! Each vest's cost is proportionate to how useful it is and I will balance it as needed (let me know what you think needs balancing). I also intend to add more variants.

----- Series 1 Variants (Currently Available) -----
All Series 1 vests have 5 SP. These are the first-generation Shield Vests; they are not perfect. Series 1 Shield energy interferes with the Skyranger's navigational systems, so XCOM soldiers are mandated to keep shields powered off while being transported in the aircraft. After deployment at the mission site, Series 1 Shield Vests will be powered on and begin to charge-up each turn. Series 1 Shields will start at 1 HP when beginning a mission, then charge up to 5.

Tentatively planned: Series 2 and 3 variants.


Let me know your ideas for new variants! I want to add more; I can do a lot of different things here.

Extremely configurable in the INIs - you can do some crazy stuff with it. (If you make ini tweaks, back up the folder, as it will be overwritten when I eventually update)

Requires Charmed's "Armor & Vest Config" mod and RealityMachinima's "Asari Adepts" -- without these mods, shields cannot recharge mid-mission. (If you don't want the Asari enemies in your game, you can remove them from spawn distribution lists in that mod's folder. If you modify Asari Adept's shield capacity or regen rate, it will apply to Shields Vests as well - they share the same ability.)

100% safe to enable at any time. Pairs well with Passive HP Regen.

They do cost 100 supplies (twice as much as 1 soldier, if I remember correctly), which can be prohibitive in the early game. But if that's still too easy, I'd recommend unsubbing until you reach a point in your campaign when you think they should become available. Then you can enable them when you're ready.

I'd really like to use this mod, but to have it available right at day 1 of the campaign is too easy. If you had at least locked it behind Nanoscale Vest, it would be better.
Also, if only you had allowed us to config away all the variants. It makes the menu way too cluttered to have 20 choices on day 1. If they were locked behind the relevant alien corpse research, that would have paced better.
I have to uninstall this mod because I can't do the above with just Notepad.

I don't remember... If there is, it's very low. Maybe Nanoscale Vest.

If the Shield Vest is not equipped on the soldier, then no, they should not have any shield unless from a special ability or another mod.

My units seems to have 2 levels of shield without any equipment, is that from this mod?

I did intend to do that however I am no longer modding XCOM 2. But if anyone wants to pick up this project and add new variants, I approve!

no more plans for tier 2 and 3? can you just add the basic vest atleast for t2/3?
