As well as seven locomotives (five F40PHM-2C's and two F59PHi's), Coaster also have a fleet of 28 passenger cars. As with a lot of commuter railroads in the United States, the Coaster cars are all Bombardier Bi-Level stock.

When Coaster first launched in February 1995, they had just the five F40PHM-2C's and sixteen coaches. Eight of those coaches were cab-cars. In 1997, another six normal coaches were built for the Coaster. And in 2003 six more coaches arrived on the line. The 2003 order consisted of two cab-cars and eight normal coaches.

The cab-cars are numbered from 2301 to 2310. 2309 and 2310 were the 2003-built cars, while the others are 19 years older. As for the cab-less coaches, the 1994-built stock are numbered from 2201 to 2208. As for the coaches built in 1997, they are numbered from 2401 to 2406, while the 2003-built coaches are 2501 to 2504.

Normally Coaster trains are arranged so that the locomotive is at the northern (Oceanside) end of the train, with the cab-car at the southern (San Diego) end. This means that the driver sits in the locomotive's cab on all northbound runs, and the locomotive pushes the train back to San Diego, while the driver sits in the cab-car.
