To use BookConverter, Steam must be running in the background and The Longing must be closed. The application can be used to convert texts into a readable version and upload them to The Longing's Steam Workshop, where other players can access them.

Installing a new book will replace one of the player's currently installed books. When uploading a new book, you must select the original book to be replaced.

There are two options for displaying text: with a static set of mostly European characters, or with a dynamic set of characters, which allows the use of Chinese characters, for example. You will have to determine which looks or works better.

If you are not satisfied with the automatic formatting, feel free to format the text yourself – the preview will give you an idea how it will look. We recommend a maximum line length of 40 characters. Automatic formatting works best if the text contains only paragraph breaks, not breaks after each line.

The converter supports many different languages, but if (and only if!) your language is not in the list of supported languages, please select "N/A" for the language field.

We recommend quitting The Longing before downloading new books. Navigate to The Longing's Community Hub in Steam and select the Workshop. There you will have the opportunity to select books to install.

Since the library in The Longing is already quite populated and there is no more shelf space, you will have to replace a currently installed book when installing a new one. If you decide to download two books that both replace the same original book, you'll see only the one most recently downloaded one.

Feel free to search for books using the tags. They allow you to sort by language or by the original book that will be replaced. As soon as you subscribe to a book, it will be downloaded. Please allow a bit of time for the download to complete. Afterward, the new book should be appear in The Longing, replacing the original.

You may have noticed that you get a time bonus by reading books. The time bonus is determined by the length of the original book – so if you replace a short book with a long one, you will still only get the time bonus of the short book (and only if you hadn't read the original book and collected its time bonus already).
