Obtaining Luxuries through deals and City-States increases Defense in cities connected to each other via a domestic trade route. Enemy units lose movement points if bombarded by a garrisoned unit.

Benteng (Castle)
Ranged units garrisoned in coastal cities may conduct an extra ranged attack. If the city is blockaded, production towards gunpowder and naval units is increased by 25%, increasing more from trade routes to and from the city.

Padewakang (Caravel)
May move twice as fast along sea trade routes, and three times as fast along sea trade routes near different continents.
