Vancouver & The Fraser Valley

Painted to resemble the Fraser Valley of British Columbia, Canada as it appears around March/April. Industries have been placed both for gameplay and to resemble the extant industries in the real world.

Lots of timber in the North Shore mountains, ores in the upper valley and plenty of industries in and around Vancouver, and plenty of farms and food can be found in the central Valley.

Hope and the Upper Fraser Valley are more developed than in real life, this is to make up for a lack of connection with the rest of Canada.

The map has been tweaked from real life in a few minor ways for gameplay. The river has been widened in the upper valley to allow navigation as in real life (this map is approx 1/4 true scale by my mental reckoning as someone who grew up there), and a passage around Tsawassen has been made to allow access to Boundary Bay as the map cuts off the entrance to the bay.

I added a few towns and hamlets to the Eastern half of the mountains including Princeton and Sunshine Valley for better use of the space & gameplay to allow Hope to grown into a big enough City to allow practical gameplay use for longhaul heavy trains in the later game. Yes, the Hope-Princeton route on this map is inaccurate, Princeton and the highway to it are just off of the edge of the map in real life.

I tried to make this map true to life in feel, and placed the industries to work if you choose to place your rail lines and roads in a true to life manner.

Whether you are going for a challenging game, or a digital model railroad: I think that you will enjoy this map.

Map created with base game assets only.

Hardware info:

Playtested from game start to year 2000 on Windows 10 i7 with 32 GB ram & Nvidia RTX2060. Some framerate issues after 1950 at max settings; playable on medium, or high with draw distance reduced. I would imagine those with i9 processors will have no issues as CPU was the cause of the frame rate issues in my case.

putting the geometry from low to medium fixed it, which is strange. Unfortunately my pc is even worse than what it was two years ago :/

I came back to my savegame on this map from two years ago and I noticed that roads from the coast to New Westminster don't have markings on them, past that everything is fine.

Started a new game to see if it was a issue with my savegame, but the bug is still there. Maybe a update broke it somehow? I mean it's still playable but it's annoying lol.

Started this map and I like i a lot but one thing I would change. Large industry buildings inside (almost every city) is not a good idea. In real life yes cities are huge and some new/old industries (even heavy industries) are there, but in this game it feels very unnatural. These industries block the cities from growing and they are huge (with some kind of station they have area like 1/2 city in 1950s). Its just the pure scale of industries vs. cities in this game and how it breaks the city grid or making the industry laterm unusable because it is basically inside the city centre. Otherwise map quality is 5/5 gameplay 4/5.

I'm having way too much fun (attemping) to recreate the highway network in this area, thanks for such an accurate map

A real labour of love, can't imagine all the work and care that went into it. Thanks so much.

@Wenatchee Willie looks like someone has done a PNW map, although I haven't given it a real look yet.

Thank you for your time. It looks wonderful, and I'll give it a try. Sure wish someone would make a great map of Washington, including Wenatchee.
