Description
USSF Holland (SS-1)

A 1:1 scale replica submarine of the USS Holland. Part of the USSF series by Eskander.

SUMMARY
Replicates: USS Holland (SS-1), 1900-1905
Variants: 3; Replica, Light Retrofit (mk2), Europan Retrofit (mk3)
Crew Size: 4-6, Highly recommend at least 3 human players for replica/mk2 variants
Difficulty: High (custom maneuvering mechanics, expanded crew roles, limited technology/convenience, significant vulnerabilities)
Barotrauma Type: Scout

Gameplay Description: A small crewed submarine of medium complexity replicating one of the first modern submarines, the USS Holland (SS-1) of 1900, that imitates early submarine technology and focuses on distinct crew roles for operation that mirror the real submarine.

General Characteristics:
Size: 16m L x 6m H
Power Source: 35kW from 1 gasoline engine
Max Speed: 11km/h
Depth Change System: Floodable Main Ballast Tank + Diving Plane maneuvering
Weapons: 1 x fixed torpedo tube, 1 x fixed dynamite gun (mk3 replaces with 1x functional coil gun)

CREW ROLES
Highly Recommended to have 3+ human players; few functions can be performed by AI. Essential roles listed below. For full details on roles, refer here.

Captain/Navigator: Stands in the conning tower, using the periscopes (or sonar in mk2) to view the surroundings and issue commands to the crew. Recommend becoming versed in how to efficiently issue commands as well as familiarity with all functions of the ship. Example: Engines, Full, Ahead -- (who, what, more detail). (In mk3 variant, the captain/navigator can conduct full maneuvers with navigation console)

Engine Operator (Mechanic or Engineer): In the engine room, this operator controls the gears and clutches that change the thrust from the propeller and if the dynamo is charging the batteries. Recommend familiarty with engine controls, and how the gas engine powers the submarine.

Helmsman (Assistant): Just aft of conning tower, helmsman adjusts the ballast tank with a flood valve and an air valve, as well as controls the diving engine (diving plane angle). Recommend familiarity with the helm maneuvering controls and principles.

Gunner (Security): In the forward compartment, this crewman loads, aims, and fires torpedos as well as triggers the dynamite gun on command. Recommend familiarity with gun systems and their limitations.

SYSTEM FUNCTIONS
This submarine has custom systems that differ from vanilla Barotrauma behavior. Control of vessel is done by multiple members, power grid and components function differently, and depth change is done through manual blowing/flooding of ballasts along with dive plane manipulation.
For full details on how to use each system/function, refer here.

That pirate was great. Where did you get the crawler corpse?

Updated with some fixes for issues created with today's patch; made a few minor improvements.

You are correct; I removed it; thank you for reminding me that the image/manual is now incorrect. I've played with different ideas to extent the range of the sight of the top periscopes to make a ventral one unnecessary (though difficult). I have one more idea I need to look at and test; if it doesn't work out, I may add the ventral periscope back. In the real vessel, of course, they had a weighted line they would extend out to discern the floor.

My apologies sir, but I do not believe your current version of this vessel has a ventral periscope as advertised in the images and your operator manual. I am uncertain if this was deliberate, if so please let me know.

Updated to be compatible with New Frontiers update. Changes in changelog.
Overall, defined role as Scout and set prices: mk1: 1072(min price); mk2: 1500; mk3: 2500. Also overhauled aesthetics due to texture changes in update. A few fixes/additions.

New update changed plenty; this sub will require some not so quick tweaking. Sorry for any delay, but I'll try to get this updated.

The Holland is hard mode, for sure. I feel like I made the mk3 too easy, though, but at least you can play it solo. Similar systems will be incorporated into the next one: SS-24 (basically a bigger Holland but with the first diesel electric engine on a sub).

Alright, so after the incident of NR-1, I decided to carefully peruse the operator manual for Holland.
After one and a half hour, I got to make my Holland move.
Annnd I just realized that even the mk3 retrofit is largely a 1900 tech gasoline powered submarine...

So, I'm not supposed to jump God Worm with Holland, right?
I probably should floor it of I see anything half of Holland's size approaching, yes?

Another high quality, innovative and interesting sub to combat the boredom repulsive vanilla subs induce.
