With the recent "Sparks of the Future" update Keen actually fixed spiders pathfinding! To me this is the best thing out of this update out of everything!
===((Around August, Keen turned off NPCs AI. So now spiders are brainless now...again))===

I modified Alien planet npc spawning to the max 31 active spiders. Along with restoring some uranium to the planet and with a dash of cobalt. This isn't tended for survival due to the massive waves of spiders. Or it could be with a dropship loaded with supplies and weapons. This was more of enjoying having npcs (spiders) FINALLY being able to navigate through your base,bunkers and buildings. Sadly they don't damage grids or even smallgrids. However this is a good start and hopefully Keen will keep npcs in mind for the future of this game along with opening it to modders. Seriously having a spider swarm charging through the base was a lot of fun and brought back memories of SE in 2015. Good work with fixing pathfinding Keen!
