Description

A ground strike fighter with an honest-to-god rotary cannon.
⨴ Handles like a truck compared to the Sanka-B, but is a great deal more stable (which is important for aiming the gun).
⨴ Automatically trims up when the landing gear are down, for slower takeoffs and landings.

Once the Someaka was finally rolled out (towards the end of the campaign in the Midlands), it spelled the beginning of the end for any hope Tolbrynd had of capturing Valfross and winning the Polar War. It was capable of carrying a large payload over long distances with its large wings and powerful engines, and this was sometimes used to carry ordinance, or to carry radar and communications systems.

However, on the vast majority of Someakas this capacity was put to use carrying a devastating six-barrel rotary cannon, which was capable of laying waste to anything and everything Tolbrynd had to offer (and was more precise than any bomb or rocket). With air superiority handled by the Sanka-B, it was given that Tolbrynd's tanks, trucks, bunkers, bases, and (sometimes) bombers were all reaped like wheat before the scythe.

Any counter that Tolbrynd could conjure up never arrived before they were forced to surrender.
In The Sky Crawlers, the Someaka pops up a few times, but it isn't really put to any use by the viewpoint characters (that I'm aware of). Supporting material pegs it as a multirole fighter which flies smoother than the Sanka-B.

I always did intend to build this plane and fit a rotary cannon to it, regardless of any other developments. Valfross' ground game is lacking.
It's basically an A-10, except with propellers.

It's done in Iridium Aerospace livery instead of its Sky Crawlers livery, since it's a less recognisable plane in general.

This plane uses many techniques developed in the course of overhauling the Sanka-B (such as using propeller blocks as hull parts), and reuses several parts (such as the canards).

It was hard enough putting 8x4 autocannon on the Sanka-B due to the outboard stabilisers. Putting engines on the wings and trying to fit an 8x6 rotary cannon was a royal pain in the rear.

Floppy landing gear can always be solved with bigger hinges.
