Pavlov's House

In september of 1942, sergeant Yakov Pavlov and 4 soldiers of the Red Army took this apartment complex in Stalingrad, holding out against light attack until reinforcements commanded by Lieutenant Ivan F. Afanasiev arrived.

The lieutenant organised a heavy fortification of the building, which overlooked a key strategic area of the Volga bank.

For the next 60 days, those troops held the building against multiple daily attacks from the Wehrmacht including artillery, air strikes and armoured assault.

General Chuikov later remarked that the Germans lost more men trying to take Pavlov's House than they did taking the city of Paris.

Today we honour those men by seeking to relive their experiences.
