The Louisville & Nashville (LN) was an American railroad chartered by the Commonwealth of Kentucky in 1850 and operated continuously under the same name for 132 years. It's rail network grew to a 6,000 mile system serving 13 states, stretching to St. Louis, Memphis, Atlanta, and New Orleans. In 1971 LN became a subsidiary of and later (1982) was absorbed by Seaboard Coast Line. A few years later, Seaboard merged with the Chesapeake & Ohio and the Baltimore & Ohio to become the Chessie System. Soon after the combined company became CSX.
