The map is a small scale depiction of the area known as Cemetery Ridge on July 3rd, 1863 during the Battle of Gettysburg. Fighting took place along much of this line on July 2nd, with many heroic acts by Union troops to hold the ridge. Pickett's Charge, late on the afternoon of July 3rd culminated at the 'Angle' and near the "Copse of Trees' where Confederate regiments breached the low stone wall and were ultimately repulsed with great loss.
