Jukebox (Music Player)

Description
Plays 8 songs from one box to change to a different songs, use a coin with the Jukebox. Works by recycling the current music player through a custom fabricator called a Jukebox with a coin item combined with the music player to generate a new song player.

This is a proof of concept to the current musical instruments, the mod has 7 soundtracks carefully selected to demonstrate the ability to contain multiple instances of music within technically a single item. (The Boombox)

It is then recycled by using a Jukebox fabricator and a single coin made out of iron to change the music player to play other tracks. The music player itself is an big old radio that uses normal batteries and the fulgurium batterycell makes it lasts twice as long. Please read disclaimers before installing.

Items
  • Jukebox - Recycling Station, Radio + Coin = New Radio
  • Boombox Radio (Song) - Plays a (Song) when powered by battery and equipped (held)
  • Jukebox Coin - Used along with a Boombox Radio to change songs with Jukebox

Disclaimer (READ BEFORE INSTALLING)
  • Lag expected from loading in music at the mod menu in game. (Possibly making your game load longer).
  • Multiplayer Desync Tested (see iterations below)
  • Don't try to use more than one boombox to save yourselves from possible network problems.

A Total of 8 soundtracks, 6 are 3 minutes long, and 2 are 5 minutes long. In total is 29 minutes of .ogg music files that the game has to load in which takes me on a SSD about 16 seconds when turning on the mod and each track individually may be loaded when they are crafted from the Jukebox, this may also lag when initiated.

The good news is, the music box although plays on dead/alive players as long as they have a battery contained, should stop working once the battery runs out (in about 3 minutes for normal battery and 6 for fulgurium). This music player can be deconstructed and crafted, bought from cities at a price of 500, jukebox likewise at a cheaper price.

Versions and Iterations
This concept went through several different trials.
  1. [Current Iteration] Radio Plays Music on Equip (Multiplayer Tested)
  2. Jukebox Fabricator Plays Music on De/Construct (Failed in Multiplayer, removed)
  3. Radio Plays Music on Use (Success in Multiplayer, saved, removed)

Compatibility
Everything should be compatible, unless mod authors named similar items.

Music Credits
I didn't make these myself, the following youtube videos were used without consent. I apologize to their artists and especially the dead ones.

It would be cool if you updated this so that we could put our own music files into it

Nice mod! Is it possible to add custom music? Where should I place music files?

One question about the # of sound files. Are the sound files duplicated eight times? Or is there just one soundfile for each track?

Ok thanks.

It reads it from the jukebox.xml and the sound files play under a certain state, in this case the player holding it has it equipped. It is possible to add more music following the format expanding the items in the xml file but not with mp3s they have to be converted into .ogg, but more songs will make this mod load even longer.
