03: The Battle Of Aswan

Description
[Briefing]

Nod's longterm bastion in Aswan has governed the region for far too long, stirring the local populace into frenzied chaos thanks to their deluded propaganda and cogency.

It is time to send our forces onshore from the Nile here and take it back once and for all!

You must eliminate Nod defences at the beachhead and advance mid-North. An old rundown GDI base still exists in the area, most likely under enemy control. Locate and recapture the old base, get it back up to speed and wipe out all remaining Nod presence!

Fair play for doing these on hard! I wouldn't stand a chance!

Nice to see you're discovering the subtle triggers along the way ;) I'm aware of that airstrip bug where you build the unit but nothing happens, it just gets stuck on 'Ready'.. it's a well known and documented glitch/bug that's been addressed in the other missions, with seemingly no patch. There are alternatives around it, but i'd still love to find the fix for it..

Thanks again for the great comment! I hope you thoroughly enjoy the campaign, I put a lotta hours and passion into it :steamhappy:

Again, very difficult on hard, so its awesome. I have some luck with enemy stucked harvester on top right base. Half of misson i defended with 2-3 orcs (mostly vs nod napaml launcher), my base was almost destroyed. If u destroyed ship on river, bonus tank will arrive. I captured enemy airstrip, but i cannot build nod vehicles including harvester. I'm looking forward on misson 04.

One change I would possibly recommend is maybe giving players control and access to the transport helicopter. I think that would be a big help while challenging due to the amount of SAM Sites.

Yeah one big observation I think people often over look and I have been guilty of this myself. Is back in '95 I played this on a 486 66mhz and the game crawled pretty slow as well as the fact that I played on a 14inch CRT so everything is well within view and pereferery and react according.

Now we have ginormous monitors compared to back then with much higher resolutions and game speeds that outpaced the machine I used.

As far as this mission, and I've played a few of your other ones, is that playing slow would definitely be recommended.

Thanks for the feedback Vanessaira... out of all the maps so far this one's definitely got the most heat criticism wise.. I guess these missions are designed to kinda keep you on your toes, especially during the intro and later on with that pathing issue.. I will say that I've play tested these to death, going over them with a fine-tooth comb. A great recommendation you mentioned slowing down the speed, should've made that an MO for this series. Thanks! I hope you enjoy the content!

2/2 Had to pull some serious strategy & tactics and cleaver use of game mechanics to take out that base to the south west. The other major thing is pathing. Pathing of your harvester as well as other units kills you and will make you want to pull your hair out sometimes. You often have to do some much handholding and micro managing to make sure things do not get out of control.

I was able to beat this without taking a ton of casualties but it was a bear to get things going and hold out till those Airstrikes were ready. Saving as much of your starting forces as possible as well as heavy use of Orca's were the key to my success.

Okay, So I just got around to playing this map. I will say the difficulty is tough. Like taking my almost 25 years of C&C experience to the extreme to beat this one, and I did not use any sand bags or anything. Without spoiling much, I will say that you should put the game speed on as slow as possible for the first part of the game. As well as restart a few times to see how the opening attack goes.

The NOD Gunboat is a bit much but ultimately doable, as well as the NOD forces attacking your base before you can even get to it. That being said. I was able to save most of the base after a second full restart attempt. The first attempt getting to the base almost everything was destroyed. So you cannot dilly dally around. Two things. I think maybe the NOD bases should be under separate houses. You throw a ton of effort to take down the Construction Yard just to have it pop back up in place is really disheartening. 1/2

Dude, it's meant to be a little challenging, in the vein of Covert Ops and the original GDI campaign difficulty.

this mission is stupid. you get 5 infantry that immediately get killed and its a mission failure 4 seconds into the mission wtf.
