Description
Lyca, the Flickering Spectre

Originally posted by Seeds of Aether:

The flicker of indigo flames danced in the periphery as she looked down at the soul beneath her. Lyca, the former Grande Huntress, knelt besides the fresh corpse and put one paw on its chest. She could even see their face; she couldn’t describe the dead to another. It’s been a long time since she remembered the face of someone she killed.

Lyca closed her eyes and the dark forest around her disappeared as she reached for her gift deep inside. The huntress then reached out for the arrow protruding from the corpse’s chest and slowly pulled it out of the dead’s heart. As the arrow left a small hole, Lyca opened her eyes again to watch as a faint glowing mist rose from the gap and coalesced into the air. Lyca smiled as she watched the mist, as she could see her child’s face smile back at her.

“Welcome back, Halice.”

Lyca stood as Halice rejoined the rest of Lyca’s kits floating beside her. She turned to her children, as the wisp of burning indigo danced around her:

“So now that everyone is back, what should we do next?”

The ghost didn’t reply, but instead continued to dance. The huntress didn’t care, her smile only grew as she watched her children float about in the deep and untraveled dark of the wood.

But the peace, standing over the forgotten dead body, was suddenly fractured as something crashed against Lyca’s supernatural senses. A deep chill struck her to the core, and her children huddled close to her in fear. Lyca turned about to face the distant source. Something powerful and terrible was moving along the King’s Road. Lyca’s muscles tensed to flee, to get away from this great power. But she didn’t. The warmth of her children beside her brought confidence and with it her smile returned.
Raising a paw she gently petted her children and said softly:

“Let us see what the wind has brought us, my kits.”

The Agile Huntress
A nimble and elusive fighter, her quick normals and multi-hit aerials can chain for seamless combos that flow like fire.

Lyca uses wisps to power up her Strong and Special Attacks which grant her better damage output, knockback, and range. She can only have three wisps available at any given time.

Ability: Will of the Wisps
  • Neutral Special can be instantly fully charged to give you a blue arrow charge at any point by pressing the Normal or Strong button.
  • Strong Attacks can be powered up at any point while charging by pressing the Special button.
NOTE: As of v1.4, Strong Attacks are now powered up by charging up an arrow by using Neutral Special's blue arrow charge.
Note: Triggering this will consume a wisp.

Strong Attacks
Forward Strong
Lyca jumps up and slams her foot into the ground, creating a giant, fiery explosion where her foot lands. Opponents can be pulled into the move at its start. This move can go offstage as well, where it can spike.

Upward Strong
Lyca brings her palm up and releases immense heat energy in the form of a flaming sphere. It can connect with grounded opponents and pull them to the sphere. This can hit more than once.

Downward Strong
Lyca spins her bow over her head and slams it into the ground, creating a wave of fire where it hits.

Special Attacks
Lyca’s Special Attacks can be used to attack from afar, trap opponents, and increase her mobility options. In this way, she uses these attacks to dominate the stage.
A successful hit with Red Neutral Special or Forward Special will restore one of Lyca’s wisps.

Neutral Special: Ghostfyre Arrow
Lyca creates a red, fiery arrow and charges it up. Release the button at any time to fire it. At full charge, the fire arrow becomes a wisp arrow, which can be used to deal even more damage. This move can be cancelled upon jumping, parrying, or dodging, which stores the charge on it.

Forward Special: Wisp Command
Lyca commands one of her wisps to move forward and maintain a static position. It can also be angled up or down. If you do not have any wisps, you send out a red flame instead, which has less power overall. Trigger Forward Special again to detonate it.
Note: This static wisp will disappear if you gain a third (does not pop).

Upward Special: Ghostfyre Ascension
Lyca propels herself upwards, shooting a ball of flame downwards. The first time you trigger this move, you send out a red flame which sends you upward. Each consecutive usage until you reach the ground or wall jump consumes a wisp, which will not propel you as high but produces a blue flame. When you run out of wisps, you are sent into pratfall.

Downward Special: Silver Flip
Lyca does a somersault in the air. If there is a horizontal input, she will flip in that direction. Otherwise, she will default to flipping behind her.
At the end of her descent, one of two different things happen depending on whether the special button is tapped or held.
If it is tapped, Lyca performs a kick downward which can spike and propel her upwards.
If it is held, Lyca shoots an arrow downward and at an angle. This instantly uses up your charge and follows the same rules as Neutral Special.

Special Interactions
  • Wisps can be detonated by any projectile Lyca creates. Red projectiles on red flames produce weak, tiny explosions, red projectiles on wisps and blue projectiles on red flames produce medium-sized, stronger explosions, and blue projectiles on wisps produce big, strong explosions.
  • Hit wisps or red flames with Lyca’s Downward Air or Downward Special’s kick to give yourself a boost upwards.
  • Downward Special can be cancelled into Upward Special at its apex.

Lyca is my favorite custom character since her release. Loved the little updates and the new art.

This might just be the most fair projectile character I have ever played in any fighting game and its definitely one of the best OCs I ever played

By far one of the best characters in the workshop. If base cast was this fun, i would actually play competitively.

Late to the party but Lyca's definitely one of my favorite workshop characters, quite a lot of depth to her kit and she fits well with clear inspiration from ZSS and Pit.

Probably won't ever happen but if she ever gets another update/rework I'd love for her to get the ability to fire her arrow upwards by inputting up during the startup or while charging. Besides possibly helping to get some kills off the top, it would also allow for some fun setups with the wisps as on lower amounts of charge the arrow would come back down and detonate the wisp a couple seconds after the arrow was fired.

Lyca is a really fun character that I've spent a lot of time playing. She's went through some changes in her kit, and I think for the most part she's come out a lot better for it. Even with all the time I've put into Lyca it still feels like I've got a lot to learn and experiment with! Thanks to everyone involved for making such a great character! :winter2019happyyul:

Is it just me, or does the font look like "fuckering" instead of "flickering"?
