Budd M2/M4 - Metro-North Railroad

Description
This mod introduces the M2/M4 series to Transport Fever 2. Shortly after consolidating the commuter railways surrounding New York City, the MTA began updating their aging, prewar fleet. While the M1 “Metropolitan” EMU operated exclusively on the area’s third-rail lines—the vast majority of the network—the dual-function M2 “Cosmopolitan” would serve the sole route powered by overhead catenary: the New Haven Line. It entered service in 1973 and was retired in 2018.

- Top Speed: 100 mph
- Power: 1184 kW
- Traction: 340 kN
- Seats: 120
- Availability: 1973 to 2018

The mod includes both overhead and third-rail variants. For now, the M2 and M4 operate as married pairs; the designations serve to differentiate the two paint schemes.

The GSI G70 bogies were provided by Maik (models) and Skyjoe (textures). They’re gratefully used here with permission.

This is my second mod. Neither this nor the M1/M3 series would be possible without Maik’s generous guidance. Thanks again, man.

Side note the M4's weren't actually built by budd. They were built by the tokyua rail car company and they were in 3 car sets. The M6 was built by Morris and Knudson and was also in 3 cars.

Hello, would you please have a check on the .mdl files? I found that the capacity and engine output power is much different than what is listed in the description. The in-game capacity is 60, the engine power is 7120kW, and the tractive effort is 660kN. In other Budd mods (not the scaled ones) from you, they all have 2020kW engine power, 320kN tractive effort, and 120 capacity.

@streek1975 Sorry for the delayed reply.

You can fix the windows' transparency by turning on anti-aliasing in the game's main settings. I have no idea what's causing the problem, but thank you to @cmichael.massiah for helping discover a solution.

@stefan.mueller.1694 Thanks for the kind words. I had initially developed the M1/M3 series as electric MUs; one of the modders who walked me through the process eventually advised that they be reclassified to run on diesel power so that—as noted in the mods' descriptions—users wouldn't be required to download an additional third-rail mod.

(I hope to release an electric version of the M1/M3 cars before long. Other projects have taken precedence.)

This mod, however, is indeed coded to run on electric power.

Hi, your mod is great, but one thing is anoying me, your third rail type is electric not diesel. Thats my problem, because i can't use it on my third rail lines.

Works great, looks great. The only thing that need changing are the train is the cockpit view, you cannot see anything but a black window.
