Description
Welcome!
This vehicle is based off of the Steamer Tahoe which was launched in Glenbrook Lake Tahoe in 1896 and then scuttled in its home port in 1940. The vessel is one of the most famous vessels to have sailed the hight altitude mountain lake. The Tahoe was not the first ship to operate on Lake Tahoe as the lack of a highway in the early days made fast steamships necessary. The Tahoe Was the largest steamer to operate on the lake and had to be transported by horse all the way from San Fransisco across the Sierra Nevadas to be built in Glenbrook Nevada. The ship served its time transporting mail, passengers, supplies, and logs across the lake at an impressive speed due to its narrow beam and (at the time) powerful twin steam engines. In 1940 after several years of disuse due to new highways being constructed the decendants of the DL Bliss, the original owner, decided that rather than scrapping it they woulf scuttle it in its home port as an underwater museum/attraction to be seen by new glass bottomed tour boats. However when the ship was being towed out at night the towboats captain was afraid of the Tahoe dragging his ship down with it he decided to scuttle it to far out and it sank far deeper than expected. Today the ship still rests at the bottom with its hull in incredibly good condition for being underwater for 80 years. This is mostly due to the quality of the lakes freshwater, its depth underwater, and the high altitude.
