Liu Kang: Chosen One

Liu Kang has trained his entire life in order to take part in the Mortal Kombat tournament and in the end managed not only to defeat Shang Tsung and prince Goro, but even the Shao Kahn himself thus liberating Earthrealm from possible invasion in the future and becoming a real hero. Reality, however, isn't that simple and in the other timelines Liu Kang didn't always succeed, becoming a soulless zombie or a revenant.
