Description
Gerard Doustraat Synagogue

Background:
I was frustrated with both the lack of synagogues and the lack of Dutch assets on the workshop, so I decided to teach myself how to use Blender to make this! It's my first asset, so its a bit rough compared to some more polished work from more experienced creators. I built it for the Jewish Quarter in my youtube series Vogelstad.

Information:
The Gerard Dou Synagogue is the oldest functioning Ashkenazi synagogue in Amsterdam. Built in 1892, it features a red brick facade with white horizontal stripes and accents. Two tall, arched paned windows are placed above the entryway, with a round Star-of-David window above them.

Because of the Synagogue's humble appearance and location between two row houses on the narrow Gerard Doustraat, it was not recognized by the Nazis as a Jewish house of worship and thus emerged from WWII unscathed.

@jeremy.thunder Why is your channel gone from YouTube? Did you delete it or did it get removed?

@author: no, not especially long, maybe 50-60 houses on each side. But it is indeed quite narrow and the synagogue is nestled in such a way that even though I had been passing by it for years I only noticed it relatively recently. The whole area is built for the workers of the former Heineken factory so the streets are narrow and buildings are simple. However the area has become very hip recently so the gentrification is underway.

Truly unfathomable how old stuff can be. To me, a place where The Ramones once stood is an ancient ground

Oh yea, there's many much much older buildings, then again, all my city's are set in the 1950's so it would count as 'old' for me regardless since i never build anything modern.

@evametryE do it!!! Although at a youthful 130 years i think this building would only really be considered old by our American standards
