TIMBER!

Livesawn

Hi everyone! I got a new skin from the Livesawn collection for you guys! This time I decided to make a skin for MP5-SD because I have been wanting to make a custom skin for the weapon but never really gotten around to it (except a couple of patterns). The MP5-SD was a pretty nice weapon to make a skin for, and especially because I knew what the general art direction was for the Livesawn skins. During the creation of this skin I noticed how much more familiar I am getting with Substance Painter and it's becoming a blast to work with it! I really hope you like this skin, and if you do don't be affraid to hit the yes button! :)

Work Process

As I already mentioned before I never really made a custom skin for the MP5-SD. However, I really enjoyed working on the model. I like the general layout of all the parts and it allows for lots of nice designs. As with most skins, I started with the layout of what is wood, what is camo, and what is metal. Once that was established I started with the silencer. I really badly wanted to add a nice grippy look through knurling on a part of the silencer. However, the MP5-SD kitbash already had knurling in the center of the silencer. Since I didn't want to step on anyone's toes I decided to go with knurling over the whole silencer. However, to break it up a little I added some smoother bits in the center. I really liked how that turned out so I kept it.

The next bit was the front grip. Initially the wood was pretty smooth on this part, but it didn't look natural. Especially with the geometry that is present on the MP5-SD it would make more sense if it was more worn. Therefore I added quite a substantial amount of wear exposing the wood underneath. Another part of the gun was the magazine. I went for a simple extra bit of geometry which you can see on both the front- and backside. I looked into adding straps to the gun but none of the places really lent itself for it, so I decided to cut those out.

Last Words

I like this MP5-SD and I am happy to have published it. Next up I'm going to have a look at making another Anemoia skin so make sure to look out for that! I really hope you like this design, and I hope to see you in the future!

In the meantime, stay healthy, make sure to wash your hands, play some CS:GO and look after yourselves! :)

Love,

Hollandje
