East London Grand Prix Circuit

Description
East London Grand Prix Circuit is located near the city of East London, South Africa. The circuit was originally built in the 1930s, and around 23 km in length. It was shortened to its current layout in 1959.

The South African Grand Prix was held here in the 30s, post-war F1 visited the circuit until 1966. The race then moved to Kyalami.

The circuit and facilities remain almost as they were in 1959, save for some new tyre walls and paint that were installed a couple of years ago. The track still hosts national level single seaters, touring cars, and rounds of the South African Endurance Championship (which caters for anything from lawnmowers to LMP2).

It's the fastest circuit in South Africa, incorporating a couple of really quick corners, a tricky infield section, and some good views of the sea.

Hi chickenDuck. Thanks for this great track. A lot of fun driving it and it looks awesome. After the last rFactor update yesterday, the Track hangs @ loading screen (does not get loaded anymore).

Hi chickenDuck,

Thank you very much for the reply - the track feels very very good to drive, feels ALIVE, so very very good job without LIDAR data then.

I have very high standards for tracks that are not laser-scanned, but this one I will keep and continue to drive. (Hell, some laser-scanned tracks are actually WORSE than this, e.g. Paul Ricard, Road Atlanta.)

Thanks again,

Atticus

Hi. No this is not laser scanned, places like this will probably never be.

It's made with a similar method to the recent Kyalami track, the guy who made that has a long thread detailing the method on AC forums, I think. So it's photogrammetry data for the base, which gives some pretty good results. Can get cambers and medium to large scale undulations pretty well from it. I mix this with GPS, telemetry data, video, personal knowledge, and whatever else I find useful to do smaller scale road stuff. Because this is public roads most of the year street view helped... :)

@Mak - You might lose some of the trees and additional tso stuff, like reduced crowd detail. But not very much. I can't remember exactly what was in or out.

Hi chickenDuck,

Thank you very much for this track - it's a real gem as it's not available in any of the 'big' sims elsewhere (iR, AC, ACC, R3E, AMS).

Can you tell us if this is laser scanned?

Thanks again,

Atticus

Another superb track from - you also the AIW. Many thanks for this gem. Love the details that can be spotted everywhere around the track. Just had an outstanding high speed battle with some GTEs
