The Witness has reached out to you in dreams. You have an opportunity to ascend through the aspect of Secret Histories. Work your career as a Professor. Lecture students and research texts. Use this to fund your expeditions to the other Histories. Record the secrets you observe. Then give your account to the Witness, and ascend to long-hood.

This mod comes with a new Legacy; the Professor, which can be accessed directly through the Invisible Serapeum. Through this mod, you can attempt an ascension through the Witness, an Hour of Secret Histories.

I have noticed that trying to read to get another reason (a third one) after starting the game causes it to completely loop infinitely, breaking the game.

I think you're getting this problem then because you're missing one of the required mods, "The Author". That mod defines the key "researchjob", which is what the error is referring to. Make sure you have the required mods, and that they are loaded before this one. Hopefully that fixes it for you
