Американский CL- 9000 был впервые представлен в 1977 году, когда во многих штатах Америки были еще ограничения по длине. Грузовики с двигателем под кабиной были тогда очень популярны, их можно было найти в ассортименте всех ведущих производителей. Необходимо при этом отметить, что Ford к этой группе принадлежал вплоть до 90-х годов, имея в своем американском ассортименте седельные тягачи высокого класса. Вернемся на рынок 70-х годов, можно сказать, что предлагаемые на нем транспортные средства были далеки от любого комфорта. Были низкие крыши, моторные туннели, как в Jelcz 315, и даже приборные панели были настолько широкие, что требовалось много акробатики, чтобы попасть на кровать. Более того, водитель сидел прямо над колесом, а кабины были лишены собственной подвески. И именно в таких реалиях дебютировал революционный CL-9000.

Что такого особенного сделал Форд? Уже в 1977 году, исключительно на американском рынке, предложил кабину подвешенную так же, как в упомянутом Renault Magnum. CL-9000 имел четыре подушки, расположенные между кабиной и шасси. Как и в Magnum, разделение между кабиной и шасси было ровным, а для улучшения воздушного потока были добавлены закругленные углы. И на этом не конец, так как кабина CL-9000 была тоже очень высокая, так же была рекордно высоко подвешена. Таким образом, это дало место для больших лобовых стекол, а также позволило опустить туннель до уровня сидений, смущая многих конкурентов в этом отношении. Кроме того, туннель также был плоским и был лишен большого корпуса, что позволяет водителю легко проникать на другой конец кабины или на кровать. It should be noted that Ford belonged to this group until the 90s, having in its American range of high-class truck tractors. Let's go back to the market of the 70s, we can say that the vehicles offered on it were far from any comfort. There were low roofs, motor tunnels like in the Jelcz 315, and even the dashboards were so wide that it took a lot of acrobatics to get on the bed. Moreover, the driver sat directly above the wheel, and the cabs were devoid of their own suspension. And it was in these realities that the revolutionary CL-9000 debuted.

What's so special about Ford? Already in 1977, exclusively in the American market, offered a cab suspended in the same way as in the aforementioned Renault Magnum. The CL-9000 had four airbags located between the cab and chassis. As with the Magnum, the separation between the cab and chassis was even, and rounded corners were added to improve airflow. And this is not the end, as the cabin of the CL-9000 was also very high, it was also suspended at a record high. This gave room for large windshields, and also allowed the tunnel to be lowered to seat level, confusing many competitors in this regard. In addition, the tunnel was also flat and lacked a large body, allowing the driver to easily get to the other end of the cab or onto the bed. For comparison, in the GMC Astro, of the same period, the dashboard reached from the windshield to the sleeping bag.


Looking at the interior of the Ford, it is also difficult not to notice a very thoughtful design. For example, all indicators and switches were grouped, which many other manufacturers achieved only a few decades later. Drivers paid attention to soft finishing materials, a modern audio system, or air conditioning, controlled in the same way as in high-end passenger cars. And this is a separate air conditioner for the front and a separate one for the sleeping area!
