Airtight Gate

Description
Hello Space Engineers !
Here is our large airtight gate model, which took waaaaay too much time and energy to create than it should have... But at least we think it's worth it, so we hope you'll appreciate it as well.

It's our first attempt in modding Space Engineers, and our goal with this giant gate was to make one that fits as much as possible the new KSWH style since the pasts DLCs with a tiny bit of personal touches (everything is made from scratch though)

As you'll see, the main (and only) inspiration we used to model it was the Frostbite DLC's 5x2 gate. And its dimensions are based on the needs of a base of ours.

USAGE :
Unfortunately, due to some limitations we encountered in terms of geometry complexity, we couldn't make the block in only one part as it is way larger than anything present in the game. We had a lot of unexpected mesh deformations all over the frame (some of which we still cannot avoid because of the block size). Because of that we had to split it in three parts but it works as intended.

Technical details

The gate is/has/should be :
-Large grid only
-Survival ready
-Airtightness
-Custom flawless animations for the lock, the sliding parts, and the gears
(considering you won't spam open/close a ridiculous amount of times)
-Custom sound sequence (with vanilla sounds, edited) (only one sound for opening and one for closing, so sound will be offset if you decide to switch from open to close and vice versa before animation ends - also looking for a viable solution to that)
-LODs
-Building stages
-Working collision everywhere it should
(even outside the bounding box on overfilling parts)
-Fully supports game's skins.
-Takes a total of 130 PCU
-Progression system
(same spot as Frostbite's 5x2 gate)

The gate consists in a set of 3 blocks :
-Right frame
-Door itself, including its mechanism, and an inner frame to virtually/physically hold everything in one piece
-Left frame
Place the blocks in that order (frame/door/frame) to build the full gate. Aim at the side's center of the door part to place the left or right frame.

The gate and passage dimensions are :
Length : 12 blocks (full) / 10 blocks (passage)
Height : 7 blocks (full) / 5 blocks (passage)
Thickness : 1 block

Other practical details

Both right and left frames are basically the same, the only differences being some technical cabinets at the bottom side of each one, and a serial number on only one of them. Frames are fully reversible, so you can use two right or two left frames, textures will connect just as fine.

There are a few part overfilling outside the block bounding box for virtual consistency reasons such as lateral uprights, guide rails above and under the gate so it doesn't feel odd to look at it whenever the door is open or closed.
That means that you can build over and hide these rails or adapt your build to let them show. It won't be weird as these parts have working collisions.

There also are quite alot of details on the frame's sides, so if you decide to not hide some of the gate faces, you'll still be able to enjoy these however you integrate it in your builds.

If the frames aren't to your liking, you can even build yours with actual armor blocks or anything else. Though, we don't really recommand that as the door model will go through anything you'd use in place of our side frames - AND - you'll loose the airtighntness of the gate by doing so.

Known issues

-Some 3D parts that are far away from the block "origin" has less details or may look a bit deformed.
That's something we can't do anything about as there are some limitations, during the export of the model and/or maybe because of the game.
The mod will receive updates if needed.

Let us know what you think in the comments below and please provide us with some feedback, feel free to post screenshots of your builds in the discussions. If this gate is well received, we might - eventually - make other mods.

Special thanks

Thanks to a few people from Keen's discord on the modding section that helped us solving some tricky SE magics we're having a hard time to understand, such as Chipstix, Psycho, and a few others. Damn, advanced doors can be a pain sometimes.

Unfortunately we don't plan on updating the mod as it still works fine, but we know it's been a most requested variant. Sorry but we can't say it will ever happen.

Really wish it was an odd number in length so it could be centered but beggars can't be chosers

@Kertit awesome! Thanks (to my friends seem to have abandoned playing so now ill have to host my own server and make i the way i want it to be lol

@FourWindBader
I see no reason it should take more than any other vanilla gates. Maybe only on the client side as the geometry could be slightly more complex but scripting wise we've used the base game code.

Is this demanding of the servers? I dont want to put it on just to realize it takes 20-40% of the servers resources like the last one i tried xD

Thank you Khal.
Not at the moment, even though other sizes could be interesting, it may or may not happen. Although not in a near future, that's for sure.

@Wolf Love this gate, nicely done. Also nice design in the pictures.

Are you by any chance planning on making other versions or variations?

It still is. Only if you set it up properly, as explained, considering you did read.

isn't airtight

Hello, we do not plan on adding a new dimension as of right now.
