very pleasant little map, I always like it when there's a combination of aesthetics and mechanics in service of representing the same thing! I realize this is quite on the nose to describe but: in this case, the form of hiking trails are represented visually, with the worn, dirt paths surrounded by dense foliage. mechanically, the difficulty of cutting through new paths or interpreted shortcuts is represented by the rough topography and expensive trees. it's effective and quite charming.

I agree - it makes it fun to have more options.

I like maps with open space for your track layout so you can go a variety of ways. To me the maps with only one way to lay your tracks are a little less interesting.
