Cryptic colouration is just a fancy word for camouflage

Livesawn

It's been a while hasn't it? Sadly enough at the end of August I started my last year of university and even though the first 2 weeks were okay, it seems like now I am swamped with work. I barely find the time to work on skins and if I do I am generally a bit tired of working on prototypes all the time. I've been playing around with some new concepts and am learning more and more each day, but for now you guys have to do it with another Livesawn skin. The AWP is a weapon I always find difficult to tackle, and this one was nothing different.

Work Progress

The AWP was quite annoying to say the least. Aside from the fact that there is this massive space, there is also the issue of texture density which makes the overall look of a lesser resolution than let's say a pistol. I made a quick mock-up of what would be camo, wood, and metal and from with the base I started working towards a more balanced result. I first started with the back, of the weapon. After sketching a couple of ideas of how this back was gonna look I ended up with the current design. I liked the flow of the wood along the grip so I kept it and looked at the front.

At the front I added a little wooden grip with the 2 bolts that are originally there to keep it in place. Then I decided to add some wraps around the grip and moved on to the scope. As I was playing around with some pattern on the scope one of them reminded me of wraps so I decided to tryh and draw some on there. This turned into the final design you can see on there right now.

As I was working on this skin I was wondering if I liked where it was going, and while I liked the camouflage with the wooden parts, I wasn't too sure if the overall composition was working or not. I tried to break up the big camo space in the middle of the AWP but couldn't really come up with anything that looked pleasing. I ended up just leaving it how it is, sometimes they say less is more. I added some final touches, fixed some AO issues on the magazine (which isn't represented in the renders) and took my screenshots for the workshop. I won't lie, this isn't my best work, but I think the layout and/or parts of this design, can be used later on in different themes.

Last words

As you probably know by now, there will be Arctic version later this week. I currently have a deadline coming up so I hope to get it up somewhere this week. After this I really wanna take my other concepts further, so don't expect another Livesawn any time soon. Perhaps an Anemoia skin, or something completely different. I'm keeping my mind open for new stuff :)

I hope you all are doing great and hope you like this design.

Love,

Hollandje

Yes I made a new description here, I thought it was time to update the old one after a good 4 years :)
