Description
They're so adorable when they're small! But... they don't keep up well with your characters, in stats or when traveling. This aims to remedy that.

Screenshots show size comparison and stats on an Elder I've had for a while.

This mod does a couple things:
- Bonedogs now grow to a larger max size
- They also grow to better max stats (nothing ridiculous). More effective in combat, not as squishy.
- It takes longer for them to reach their new Elder power levels (meaning, they will spend a little more time in each growth stage)
- They RUN FASTER at all growth stages, and won't slow your squad to a crawl
- These changes affect ALL BONEDOGS, meaning the hostile ones you find in the wild as well as the bought dogs from the Animal Trader. Watch your back!

This means:
- Taking care of your Bonepuppy in the short term will yield a greater long-term payoff
- At each growth stage, they're a little faster than Vanilla - no more lagging along at 8mph endlessly just because you wanted to take the dog for a walk
- Wild Bonedogs are now a bit more dangerous to your early characters - especially in packs
- They look cooler when the Elders are friggin' huge

NOTE ABOUT HOW ANIMALS WORK:
At each growth stage, all animals have their stats CAPPED at certain levels. That's why you can train your Pup to have 30 Athletics but he's still only going 9mph. It goes: Pup > Teen > Adult > Elder, and each level has a higher cap until they reach Elder when there are no more "blocks" on their stats.

With this mod, Bonedogs will have better stats AT EACH STAGE than their Vanilla versions. So you may still need to pick up your Pup and RLF, but it's especially noticeable once they reach Teen and Adult and can keep up with your characters on their own - and with better combat stats as well.

Keep in mind that it will take LONGER for them to reach max Elder statuis (animals never die of old age, Elder is max then they stop aging). Take care of your Pup now and he'll take care of you later.

Is this mod still functional, and will it work on existing saves?

does this mod require importing the save?

Bit late, but I think that's a game thing, has to do with its age or something? I noticed that as well beforehand, it's not something the mod affects.

I like this mod but having some trouble because none of the dog's stats show up correctly in the stat pane. When he's running in the toolbar it shows he has 30 something athletics, but in the pane it shows he has 2. He's also somehow leveling up in stats I don't think dogs can even have. Not sure if this is a problem on my end, the game's end, or the mods'?

Awesome, thanks!

Been playing with this and I really like it! Even as a juvenile they are now useful early game, and as an elder the dog is a mainstay in my group and absolutely brutal. Well balanced imo though, can take a lot of punishment but not too much. Feels like feral bone dog nests are more interesting as well! Have seen them tear into bandits in the border lands heh, but not strong enough for empire groups or higher level factions. Good balance and great fun!

Ah gotcha. No problem, the Boneyard Wolves are still stronger (and bigger etc) than the Bonedogs even with my buffs. If you're in that area, next time you see some, see if they seem like there's not enough of a difference and maybe I'll up their size a little to make them more obvious? Bonedogs were very weak in Vanilla but the Wolves have decent Strength already so might be balanced better, but the visuals of their size could still be tweaked.

Okay, wanted to check because I didn't know if maybe you made bonedogs stronger the boneyard wolves without realizing. Thanks.

...turns out the vanilla Boneyard Wolves are already bigger, stronger, and faster (better train that Athletics!). Not sure I should buff them further.

That's a good point - I didn't notice if they had a different race entry, I'll check
