Designed for the Spanish army to fix the issues with the 1887 Turkish model,the mauser 1893 was itself the result of improvements over the first transitional version (the 1892). It was mainly used in the Spanish American war and the Spanish Civil war,greatly surpassing the American black powder rifles and causing many casualties.
Later on it was used by the Ottoman Empire in small numbers;in WW2,by the Brazilian army in the interwars period,greatly again during the Spanish Civil war (with millions of the rifles still in the country),and finally in some numbers by Belgian forces during the interwars period and in WW2 (specially the troops in the Congo)
