Aerith the Unassuming Cryptid

Aerith is a shrubling, a rather innocent-looking purple bird with magical attributes. She is meant to be an advanced character who starts off extremely weak but grows stronger after performing certain tasks.

(Don't let that innocent demeanor fool you! She hides a dark secret. A slave to her own biology as are we all. This true nature will manifest if she has live mammals, bugs, or birds in her inventory.)


Aerith starts with:
50 Health
100 Hunger
100 Sanity
The lowest totals of any character in the game. You do NOT want to get in a fight early on. Use your natural speed to scout out the world, or try to build a science machine to get yourself a hammer or a bugnet. For... reasons...

Due to her magical nature and general understanding of extraplanar biology, she can both craft and read Wickerbottom's Books.

Read on for spoilers on her unique mechanics, otherwise feel free to experiment and learn with her!

Aerith can absorb the attributes of particular creatures when she devours them in a particular way.
Most creatures that can be put in the inventory without being killed will upgrade her stats permanently: Moleworms give her more health, rabbits give her more speed, bees give her more strength, and butterflies give her a small boost to maximum sanity, all to a reasonable maximum. This is all to encourage the player to use traps, bugnets, and other tools that he/she might otherwise neglect in a normal playthrough.
Birds, on the other hand, do not give a stat increase but instead give a guaranteed feather of the appropriate type. Use these to craft blowdarts if you're so inclined!

I got the idea for editing inventory tags on inventory pickup from Rockk! That idea alone skyrocketed progress on the mod and allowed me to play with some really cool effects.
