I know the start tile is in a weird place and I don't care. It's the place with the best water for vanilla players.

Oil, fertile land, forest, and ore are all present in the map, as well as plenty of access to running and still water.

The map is temperate and uses the Coosbay theme by VecchioChristo. The theme is a bit hefty for less powerful machines. It's not a perfect replacement, but for a lightweight theme alternative, you can use Apollinaria (also in the one-click collection). It's not perfect and some of the sand may look weird, but it's my favorite alternative I've found!

These screenshots were taken with the Chiaroscuro LUT also by VecchioChristo and After Dark lighting. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND 81 Tiles mod. This map is entirely playable as a vanilla map but I put a lot of effort into making the whole map as detailed and playable as I could.

I have also included a structure modeled after the Ore Docks of Marquette ,Michigan, made entirely from vanilla assets. So, if you're wondering what that big rail box is just outside of the 25 tiles, here's some fascinating background info!:

Escape From Keeweenaw is a fictional island map modeled after the Lake Superior coast of Upper Michigan. The Upper Peninsula (or UP, as it is colloquially known) is a relatively unpopulated and astoundingly beautiful part of North America which straddles two of the Great Lakes. Here in 2020-US-election-year-Covidland-Chicago where I live, I have had a lot of time to imagine both great and bleak futures. Through the anxiety of our current shared situation, I wanted to create a bit of a scenario for sandbox detailers and vanilla builders alike to imagine themselves in the dire circumstances of a dismal future. But also, this is a map that's pretty playable and has plenty to explore and discover, quirkiness abounds!

It is July 2059. The global climate refugee crisis continues to send entire nations into collapse as billions seek clean water, fertile land, and hospitable weather conditions. Emperor Eric Trump, the theocratic dictator of the New United States has fallen from power in the chaos. The destruction of the New United States dynastic leadership has left factions of militias to oppressively govern the the few North American cities that survived the bloody resource wars of 2040.

Today in 2059, much of our planet is pockmarked in radioactive craters from global war, the oceans have become acidic and unable to harbor life, and the Earth's supply of oxygen is dwindling after decades of deforestation, fire, and acid rain. Amidst the horrors of daily life, the nomadic groups of climate refugees have set their sights on the shattered pine-laden coast of Michigan's upper peninsula, The UP. Along the icy waters of the world's last remaining source of fresh water lies a set of islands with fertile land, embraced by a blanket of trees, nestled safely into Keeweenaw Bay.

It is your job to lead the last hope for humanity, can you build a city dense enough, safe enough, clean enough, green enough to serve as one of humanity's last great settlements?
