Description
Songblade - Personal buffs AUTHOR - Greg Murrell THANKS - Eldiran, McFrugal, and RyMarq, for balance and coding help. REQUIRES - For backwards comptability, it does not require my Resources mod, but instead, has the "Speed" status baked into this mod. DESC - A secondary class for Warriors designed for modest self-buffs. All buffs happen instantly (like Rogue's Dash) with cooldown, but have an equally short duration, and you can only use one per turn. Useful for Cresting a single ability, keeping the whole skill set as a secondary class, or for building secondary weapon Crossbow damage. Expensive Passives allow for an alternate use as a more dedicated support character. INSPIRE - Lord of the Rings. More precisely, the Angband variant known as "Sil", created by half. MECHANICS - Instant, uses MP, short duration & cooldown (20), disallow multiple per turn. Ability Tablets do not allow for exceeding max rank (but still work otherwise). PROGRESS - Mid Game TREE - Warrior, Support Branch, 2(.5)nd Tier XP - 500 Tactician INNATE - Str +1, Def +1, Eva +15, Mg.Eva +10, Wpns +1 (Swd, Shld, Spr, Xbo) INNATE PASSIVE - Cheerful (from Minstrel) ACTIVE - Vigor: 5 MP Heal: 3 + 5% of max HP + Life/2 XP: 120 Heal: 4 + 10% of max HP + Life/2 XP: 360 Heal: 5 + 15% of max HP + Life/2 XP: 540 Valor: 5 MP +1 PhysAtk, null Fear, Sleep XP: 120 +2 PhysAtk, null Immobilize, Cancel XP: 360 +3 PhysAtk, null Disable, Dispel XP: 540 Force: 3 MP, Battlecry Cone 1 Pushback XP: 80 AoE+ XP: 240 AoE+ XP: 480 Swift: 9 MP +1 Move, +1 Jump XP: 180 +1 Jump, Next turn comes 15% faster XP: 540 Firewalker, +15% mg.eva XP: 1080 Dread: 7 MP, AoE Range = 1 Demoralize XP: 150 -20% acc, eva, mg.eva XP: 450 Inflict +5 Time XP: 900 PASSIVE Sustained Tone (recover 3 MP at end of turn) XP: 1000 Drums of War (all allies or all enemies gain the 1st rank of the buff or debuff for 20 Time; Force Song is unaffected) XP: 1500 Inspiring Tune (All quicksongs grant +1 Morale to the user for 20 Time. Does not combo with Drums of War) XP: 1000 STAT - HP, Sword, Shield, Spear, Axe, Crossbow NOTES "Crossbows? Axes?" The Warrior line is your front-line melee, not your archers or cavalry. Bows don't belong. Crossbows & pistols, on the other hand, are a viable secondary weapon for such units. Hence, crossbow skill. Also, the image of an LotR elf in the "Age of Sailing", keeping the old tradition of song while he wields both blade and gun, is rather amusing. As for axes, there technically are some elves in LotR lore who use axes. So ... it's not for dwarves only. ... Besides, I'm pretty sure LotR dwarves sing a lot too, including in combat. "No MP Growth?" This class is meant as a secondary class for Warriors, your front-line melee infantry who usually rarely use their MP. This class gives them something to burn MP on, without interfering with their main role (front-line tanking and damaging). MP growth is conceptually wrong. That said, Sustained Tone does exist. It's a bit pricey, and does compete with other nice front-row warrior abilities like Counter, Ruin Aura, or Critical Recovery. It also won't enable any mage to suddenly spam their high-end moves either. Still, for sustained use of low MP moves (which is what Songblade mostly does), it's actually better for your MP than raising your MP, while letting you still use growth stars on offense or defense. "15% faster? Why not just 5 time faster?" While that would work in vanilla, where everyone's Time to Act basically equals 30, it's dangerous with any mod that allows a unit to lower their Time to Act significantly. Take, for example, my own Species Diversity. Scurio has 24 Time to Act there. 24 -> 19 is a bigger speed boost than is 30 -> 25. There are other mods that provides items or classes that can lower time to act even further. A faster character would get exponentially stronger with such mods, up to the point of 1 Time to Act (or 0 Time to Act?). A percentage-based speed-up helps moderate this. I still can't control what other mods do, nor any potential overpowered interactions between mods. But I can do a little something to help keep speed-focused characters balanced.

UPDATE: Went through several updates changing Swift Song's "+Speed" affect to be based off of my Speed Status mod, instead of it's own status. For backwards compatibility, the Speed status comes baked in with this mod. So, none of y'all have to worry about Songblade suddenly crashing on you.

Also, in keeping with my "Class Innate Passives" mod, I've added an Innate Passive to Songblade: Cheerful, which is one of Minstrel's passives. Enjoy.

01/19/21 - Major Update. Changed one song and radically buffed all the others, reduced XP costs across the board, weakened Drums of War, introduced a new passive, and allowed for use of Axes with this class. The above Readme has been updated to reflect this new Songblade.

6/10/21 - Minor Update. Sustained Tone restores 3 MP per turn, instead of 1.

6/19/21 - Minor Update. Swift Song now directly affects the user's Time to Act, instead of using a speed status hack as a workaround. Also, all quicksongs now work with passives that affect MP cost.

alrighty, just thought it was weird that Dread Song has no sound.

Songs just copy the visuals & sounds from Minstrel. So, if the that song in Minstrel had no sound effect, then it won't. Could also be a audio glitch related to how Songblade works dramatically differently from Minstrel.

Just wondering if Dread Song is supposed to have no sound effect.
