Description
Mike Rotunda signed with Jim Crockett Promotions in 1987 and shortly after, joined the Varsity Club.

During his run with the Varsity Club, Rotunda won the NWA World Television Title as well as the NWA World Tag Team Championship with "Dr. Death" Steve Williams. However, the tag title win over the Road Warriors was disputed due to a fast count from referee Teddy Long, and the Varsity Club were stripped of the tag titles.

Rotunda left the NWA shortly after, but returned a few months later as Captain Mike Rotunda, a ship captain gimmick.
