Skaar-Cleaver-T3

Description
HV, Tier 3, Unlock Level 15, Class 1

Works in both vanilla and Reforged scenarios

The Cleaver is a mid-game shielded light tank designed specifically for taking on shielded POIs. Its compact design allows it to hide against the wall of a POI to avoid fire from its turrets. The two front plasma turrets will target the base to drain the shield, while the rocket and minigun turrets protect you from drones and ground troops. The vehicle has no fixed weapons, so you can concentrate on monitoring your shield strength and positioning to avoid turret and drone fire.

If your shield goes down you still have a bit of redundancy to help you survive. Generators and fuel are divided between both sides, and there are two independent ammo controllers to keep the vehicle firing. In general I also recommend splitting your ammo into small stacks so that if container extensions get destroyed you don't drop all of your ammo at once (see picture for reference).

This ship was balanced for the Reforged scenario. It runs at 99% CPU efficiency but that should give you no problems. In vanilla you have some extra CPU overhead available if you want to customize it with a different turret configuration. In both scenarios it runs pretty close to generator redline when at full thrust while the shield is recharging, so be aware of that when customizing.

The "Park mode" signal switch shuts off the thrusters and hover pads to allow the Cleaver to operate as a sentry while you go off looting.

Works well on 4G planets with a full load of ammo.

There is several poi's that you can infiltrate with a low tier hv. By running at full speed against the poi, hug the base so turrets can't hit you and then jump of and walk in. The challenge with that method is ground troops and drones tho.

Good question 1Z. To give you an example, in vanilla you can basically take this tank and pull off the shield and pentaxid tank and it's easily T2. So same firepower and maneuverability, but not as durable. You could spend the extra CPU on adding more armor or some fixed weapons.

In Reforged, maybe not. You'd have to also remove some thrusters, or some turrets, or both. But you could also just add one T3 (improved) extender and get some extra capability with a smaller optronics investment.

I think at T2 you're better off with a mining or exploration vehicle with maybe a rocket launcher or two to take out drones. When you're ready to attack a POI and want a survivable vehicle, you sort of need the extra capabilities at T3/T4.

Ah! A non T4 battle tank. That is what I have been looking for recently.
And usable on reforged too!

I still wonder though, are T2 Tanks (so no optronics) viable in any capacity? Not for something like a drone base but still. I don't see much of T2 battle vehicles at all

That's what i used to do. Now i changed my play style. I go in with a hv or sv, then i walk my way to the core and blow it up. And if there is to much loot to carry in my sv/hv. I just move the CV in wifi range :)

Thanks IW. Interestingly, I've always been taking out the turrets so I can approach with my CV for looting. I should just focus on the gennies next time.

Cool HV! i like the the hug to avoid turret tactic ;) gives you the benefit of salvaging them when poi is cored.
