Procure the all-important reagents of identification with soda ash[en.wikipedia.org] [Na₂CO₃], slaked lime[en.wikipedia.org] [Ca(OH)₂] and ammonium saltpetre[en.wikipedia.org] [NH₄NO₃].

Difficulty: DIFFICULT [8/10]

The two alkalies, of sodium and of ammonia respectively, are found on many an alchemist's workbench along with other communal reagents. These two reagents form salts that will aid an alchemist in determining, precisely, the metals elementally present in the substances unknown — all of this is evident from the fact that the salts' colour and resistance to being dissolved in water varies depending on the metal involved. —Codex Radicis Rationalis, 45:3
