Ancient practitioners of Paracelsianism have contended that, innately, quicksilver sublimate boasts therapeutic properties that physicians should exploit to treat ailments of uncertain origin. This is untrue. Their line of reasoning stems from the unsound hypothesis that quicksilver and vitae are parallel elements, that the former is a natural product of the latter. According to scholars investigating the Asmodean Palimpsest, the Paracelsians had simply mistaken sap for quicksilver. Though physicians of this age still use it as a disinfectant, the sublimate is actually extremely toxic and corrosive, and an alchemist should always wear gloves when handling it. —Codex Radicis Rationalis, 56:3
