Cody Rhodes became Stardust in mid-2014. He teamed up with his brother Goldust to win the WWE Tag Team titles shortly after the gimmick change, but after two reigns with the belts, the team broke up and the brothers began a short feud.

Stardust began refusing to be addressed as Cody and slipped further and further into madness. The gimmick morphed into that of a comic book supervillain. At SummerSlam 2015, Stardust took on Arrow's Stephen Amell in a tag team match also involving King Barrett and Neville.

Behind the scenes, Rhodes had been pitching his return to the Cody Rhodes gimmick, but was denied repeatedly for over 6 months. He requested his release from WWE in 2016 and left the company shortly after.
