Description
Update 6/14/14- added the Dragon Anti-Fighter Destroyer

Update 4/14/14 - added the Nidhoggr Patrol Destroyer

Update 4/12/14 - added glass windows

Destroyers are the in-between class within Frigates and Cruisers. They provide a unique role in that they are larger and more heavily armed than frigates, yet are more manueverable than cruisers. Therefore, Destroyers typically see action in anti-frigate roles.

Left to Right - Dragon, Jormungandr, Nidhoggr, Wraith

Wraith Class Destroyer

Mass: 5m kg
Acceleration: 2.4 m/s^2
Weapons: 6 Missile Launchers, 4 Gatling turrets, 2 Gravity Accelerator Cannons
Ammo Storage: 6 small containers for the GAC Ammo, and 4 large containers for the turrets

Although it bears some similarities to the design of the Raven frigate, the Wraith was created for a much more aggressive role. It is built in every way to prey on smaller ships (typically frigate classes) and tear through them with its two main cannons. The Wraith has a wide profile, allowing all of its weapons to bear forward on its targets, and negating the need for broadsiding.

Nidhoggr Patrol Destroyer

Mass: 4m kg
Acceleration: 2 m/s^2
Weapons: 11 missile launchers, 7 Gatling turrets
Ammo Storage: 4 large containers

The Nidhoggr was created to patrol and protect Phoenix starbases, especially the more outlying ones. It is relatively small, but packs a good punch for something of its size. It is designed to be a broadside destroyer, where all weapons are capable of firing on a single target. Additionally, it has landing gear on the sides to allow the Nidhoggr to attach itself to intruding craft and drag them to a halt with its dampners or allow crew to board the enemy vessel. The landing pad at the top of the ship also gives it some extended range and recon by allowing interceptors to operate with it.

Dragon Anti-Fighter Destroyer

Mass: 4.646 mil kg
Acceleration 3.34 m/s^2
Weapons: 18 Gatling guns, 20 Anti-Missile Systems, 4 Rocket Launchers
Ammunition Storage: 78 small containers

Originally created to shoot down incoming meteors, the Dragon showed promise when pirates began to attack the mining facilities it protected, and it held its ground against all forms of fighter craft. Realizing its effectiveness, the Navy adopted the Dragon and upgraded it with military grade hardware, and threw in 4 rocket launchers as well. Since that time, the Dragon has served alongside larger ships, using its large array of guns and high manueverabity to protect the fleets from enemy fighters.

Jormundgandr Heavy Destroyer

Mass: 5 mil kg
Acceleration: 1.5 m/s^2
Weapons: 5 gatling guns, 13 Missile Launchers, 4 Rocket Launchers, 30 Anti-Missile Systems
Ammunition Storage: 52 small containers, 2 large containers

The Jormungandr was created to be a heavy version of the Nidhoggr. Although based on the design, it quickly gained a personality all its own. The Jormungandr is a combination of heavy armor and weapons in a slow yet manueverable package. It often serves the fleet by supporting Nidhoggrs on patrol operations when heavier support is needed. However, the ship is quite capable in its own right, and often sees action in deep space as well.

If you want to rework it, by all means, turn it into something useful. I'll still have the original design to work with in another save file... ^_^

But I see your point, yeah... I'll rework it myself anyway and see whatever else I can do to the thing. :D

if you want to go with that style, i'd suggest making it symmetrical so the bridge or some other extension exists on the opposite side as well. personally i don't like round, tube like designs very much so if you wanted me to rework it id probably give you a entirely different ship. however, i can point you to one good source of inspiration for such a shape - the TEC rebel titan from sins of a solar empire http://media.desura.com/images/members/1/535/534154/TechRebelTitan2.jpg

This is the ship in question. Buuut I don't like the "command" bridge along the top. That and the weapons might need to be a bit more spaced out, if not removed entirely altogether and repositioned~ If you want to rework it, by all means, I'm still trying to set up the conveyor systems within the ship's hold too, so that's still a no-go at the moment. VERY WIP at the moment...

i can take a look at it and give you some feedback. not easy for me to actively help you though without me simply building it myself.

I couldn't think of how else to contact you and I REALLY don't wanna hijack this submission... but could you potentially help me on one of my designs I recently brought online?

thanks, though in reference to meteor defense i had actually designed the dragon for that one, not the jormangundr. never tried that one for it, though. glad you like the design, it was very much inspired by German U-boats

((wait... wait... holdup... 0_O That's not the dragon... am dumb... that was the Jormungandr... I am dumb. >.<))

I'd like to state that the Dragon is exceptionally capable for its given role. Just as a test, I set one up in a level with the meteor showers set to Armageddon and it was only hit once after about an hour of holding off the entire shower.

So given infinite ammunition, the Dragon could theoretically protect an entire station from an endless rain of meteors. Bar-none, that's the one ship I'd be most scared to come across in a scout fighter or any fighter class vessel in general.

Also, my favorite design by far. Probably because it looks a little like the Hiigaran Destroyer. :D

thanks, this one still came from EVE though as i was inspired by the Mordu's Legion Garmur
