ETV's EDH MTG - 2-8 Player Simple Table

Description
Take your friend group's card night online with this simplified Magic the Gathering table.

Skip having to build your own table just to play a few games, for a single "Subscribe" click is all you will need to get started playing Magic the Gathering on Tabletop Simulator with your friends.

  • Sits up to 8 players
  • Supports EDH / Commander, Teams and most regular MTG formats
  • Minimal fancy buttons for your players to have to learn, just pass the torch when your turn is complete!
  • Easily import deck lists from popular online deck builders, text documents or the Tabletop Simulator Notepad
  • Intuitively track of life totals, commander damage, counters and more
  • Quality table textures
  • For best voice communication experience, utilize Discord[discord.com]

This is my first table build for Tabletop Simulator. The table started as some minor manipulations to an existing table created by another user, cited below, but inspiration struck alongside some Photoshop excitement and well here we are. My goal was to simplify the table to better suit the needs of my EDH group, and they really appreciated the results. Thanks to the "MTG Deck Loader / Importer," we are easily able to import decks from both deck building websites and text-based lists. My preference for a deck building website is TappedOut[tappedout.net], as I have been using it for about a decade now. Finally, our weekly game of Magic can sometimes draw in a large number of friends, so a table which allowed for a larger number of players was a must.

How to Install / Use in Tabletop Simulator
First, you must subscribe to this workshop item. Second, once you open a new game (single or multiplayer) in Tabletop Simulator, you can launch the map by opening Games -> Workshop Items -> ETV's EDH MTG - 2-8 Player Simple Table and selecting load. Finally, invite additional players! Only the host should need the map.

From there, you can import decks as described above, select seats, and begin the game! There may be ways to save your decks for future games, but for now I always import the decklist via the importer tool.

Decks can be imported from:

Future Updates and Plans
  • Protect player hands from trolling, protect player spaces -- Permissions
  • Encoder appears broken-ish
  • General guidelines for successful usage of the table, likely using notes
  • Untap button
  • Mulligan feature
  • Adjusting size of numbers and buttons on counters
  • Playmat texture revision
  • Table texture revision (applying leather texture over symbols)

Shoutouts for Inspiration and Work:

Feel free to do as you please with this table, stay home and stay safe, skål!

Slowly updating as I see fit, feedback is always welcome and appreciated.

Updates (7/5/2023)
  • Playmat snapping points for Deck, Graveyard and Exile piles.
  • Added Steam Workshop Link puck to the corner of the table.
  • Added MTG turn rules / guide
  • Adjusted playmat zones
  • Cosmetic changes -- Background change from stars to a higher quality space nebula background.
  • Added snapping zone for the commander block

FAQ:
What are those two big symbols on the table?
  • The two symbols on the table belong to two locations where my Magic groups used to get together and throw down. Caribou Coffee, a Midwestern coffee chain, and Vern & Wells, a gamer social venue on the Pacific Coast. If there are enough requests, I may upload a separate table without the logos.

How are you the only god dam 8 player table not to put our decks together for an 8 man table? Its a constant issue with those new to TTS where they accidentally put cards in someone else's deck.

Just wanna give a special thanks to all of you that have tried out the map over the last month! Current statistics tell me that about half of all visitors are giving the table a spin. I hope it's treating you well, my MTG group hasn't come across any issues aside from players spawning life-size Gundam figures from the workshop lololol

Blessed Yuletide and Winter Solstice all, see you in the New Year! :andmyaxe:
