Vivala's Altaians (Grigory Gurkin)

Nestled in the breathtaking Altai Mountains of Central Asia, the Altaians are a Russian ethnic minority with a unique culture and spiritual tradition rooted in the land. In this mod, you take control of them under the leadership of the landscape painter, Grigory Gurkin. Gurkin, whose paintings helped solidify a sense of national identity in the 1910s, led an effort to create an independent Altai state at the dawn of the Russian Civil War.

UA: Altai Jang - Unimproved, workable resources provide +1 Faith and +1 of their respective yield, and an additional +1 Happiness if it is a luxury resource. +1 Faith from Mountains.

UU: Kam - Replaces the Missionary. When purchased, the Kam receives an additional spread for each Mountain within 3 tiles (max +2). When purchased, the Kam’s home city receives 3x the yield of all unimproved, workable tiles. (Note: Civ handles relgious units strangely, so you purchase Kams by purchasing a standard Missionary, which is then promptly converted into a Kam.)

UB: Altai Mountain Duma - Replaces the National Intelligence Agency. Unlocked at Electricity. Does not require contabularies, nor does the cost scale with the number of cities. However, the Altai Mountain Duma requires an ideology, must be built in the capital, and costs 900 hammers. That cost is halved if you have founded a religion. In addition to the effects of the National Intelligence Agency, all cities receive +2 Gold from incoming trade routes and can build Science buildings in half the time.

As the Altaians, you consider the land to be sacred (or, at the very least, very pretty), so your goal is to stay competitive while improving as few tiles as possible. To stay relevant, you’ll need to take full advantage of your faith. Use your UA to crank out as many Kams as possible. Use those Kams to enhance your cities’ yields and spread a useful religion. And make sure you found a religion so you can build the powerful Altai Mountain Duma in half the time!
