What Map Review #1162 (11 stars) by BonBonB. Corrections made to map. Selected in Top Ten Maps: March 2021.

Geography

The eastern edge of the map suggests the Commonwealth of Virginia below the Potomac River with the State of Maryland on the north side. The more upriver one travels on this Potomac the faster the illusion evolves. That’s because the headwaters of this Potomac envisions the karst topography of Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia with its 16 lakes connected by waterfalls.

While there are waterfalls and rapids on the map; there are not 16. This map is like a Jimmy Buffet song. “Believe it or not, it's a semi-true story. I made up a few things. And there’s some I forgot. . .”

Features

This temperate map uses the Cedar Valley 4K theme by Mark Fire, and Photorealistic_lut_Final_by_Reaper. Feel free to use others. It’s your map now.

Game Play

The only required mod is Network Extensions 2 (Updated for Sunset Harbor) by sniggledigit. FEEL FREE TO USE RON TO SWITCH FROM NETWORK EXTENSIONS 2 TO OTHER ROAD ASSETS, BUT USE RON BEFORE DELETING EXISTING ROADS.

Electrical power: There is a working hydroelectric dam within the 25 tiles. Expect a slight surge behind it for a few game days. Water settles down rapidly. Consider anything over 500 MW as a bonus. The electric grid goes to the start square and elsewhere. There is a small wind turbine providing power to a bridge north of the river.

Water/Sewer: Pumps and pipes provide 360k cubic meters of cool clear water from above the dam. Environmentally sensitive vanilla treatment plants will handle 480k of sewage. The number of plants operating will increase, as needed. Why more sewage capacity than water? Because sewage is always a problem.

Connections, Trees, and Props

Highway: 4/4

Train: 4/4 Extra parallel tracks to ease separation of passengers and cargo.

Ship: 2/4 One ship route goes upriver past the railroad trestle. CAUTION. Red lights on both shores give warning of the danger ahead. While ships will clear under the trestle; they will experience a strong current against the port side as they enter turbulent waters just below the fall line. One ship captain, at least, lost his ship as it wedged against the trestle after losing control in fast waters. Quays mark two safe locations that have been pre-tested for shipping operations.

Air: 4/4 Air routes form two arcs across the map. There are three pre-tested airport locations marked by short parallel sets of taxiways.

Trees: 195,000/250,000, mosty low-tri counts. Thanks to Greyflame and pdelmo for their assets. I used only 572 vanilla trees – mainly fruit and/or flower trees. (I hand-counted. Just kidding.)

Props: 7782/50,000

Special assets

Interchanges: Thanks to Timboh for his Turbine Stack Interchange that I extensively modified with lane mathematics This also allowed changing some columns. (Thanks, Biffa!) Any mistakes are mine. All other exits/interchanges are mine or extensively modified vanilla assets.

Other: Thanks to Avanya, Ronyx69, KingLeno, The_Ping, and jimbobbedyjobob.

General information

Sunset Harbor DLC: Go fish. You have all species available in that DLC.
Industries DLC: Extra rail and resources have this DLC in mind.

Highest land: 564m. above sea level
Highest water source: 512m.
Water above dam: 259m.
Water below dam: 210m.

Suggestions

Don’t mess with the dam. Be cautious changing this fast moving river with its falls and rapids.

Use the 81 Tiles mod and Clouds and Fog Toggler mod to search the map. You may find castles (including a sunken one), parks, lighthouses, a mysterious oak tree spiral (but no druids), abandoned houses, etc. Check every road.

Enjoy yourself.

If you are feeling generous, give me a like. I'll speak well of you. Thanks.
