Unlocked at level 10 and sporting a bargain price tag in terms of resources, this satellite can easily put out a lot of firepower to ward off the occasional drone or corvette (in sufficient numbers depending on the ship of course). With the absence of a shield generator these satellites are meant to take the hits so your big expensive space station doesn't have to, but also are cheap and easily replaceable.
