Time Kills

Description
Adds "Old Age", a condition organic pawns and animals can receive on a birthday event after reaching their life expectancy (80 for humans). The Old Age condition will periodically cause an organic body part on the pawn/animal to receive the "Degradation" condition which will cause the part's efficiency to lower over time. At it's final stage, degradation destroys the part. The chance for degradation to occur is based on the severity of old age. At it's initial stage, degradation cannot occur. At it's final stage you could get degradation as frequently as once every 2 days. Degradation can only affect organic parts, so artificial/bionic parts are not affected by that condition. The same can be said for Old Age when it comes to non-organic pawns/animals so robots should be safe.

There are options for dealing with these conditions if you'd like to fight to keep your favorite pawns alive in their golden years. Both old age and degradation can be treated with medicine to slow them down or even reverse them (albeit slowly). Tend quality of ~95% will stop the progression of Old Age (~70% for Degradation) and above that will slowly reverse them. Parts affected by degradation have some options depending on the part. Replaceable parts like limbs and some internal organs can simply be replaced via surgery.

This mod is intended to allow both pawns and animals to pass away naturally as they age. With Vanilla timescales you'll mostly notice it with animals that have relatively short lifespans but the mods's effects become much more pronounced when using it with a mod that alters aging speeds. It also works well with mods like Death Rattle. It was inspired by mods like Natural Death and Diseases+.

Q: What pawns/animals does this mod affect?
A: Any organic pawn or animal. Robots and the like shouldn't be affected.

Q: I really like my pawns and animals, what if I don't want them to die?
A: I'm curious why you downloaded this then. If you want to use the mod but have a favorite pawn you want to stay alive, you can use glitterworld medicine and a good doctor to reach tend qualities beyond 100% which will reverse the effects. If you use mods like [O21] Celestials or Immortals, pawns with those hediffs will get Old Age but it will be removed shortly after they get it.

Q: How common is degradation once my pawn has "Old Age"?
A: The chances vary based on the severity of the Old Age condition. Initial levels have no risk whereas the final stage of Old Age can cause degradation roughly once every 2 days.

Q: Compatibility?
A: Compatibility should be high as this mod utilizes Rimworld's own systems to add hediffs. However there may be mods that do things that don't make sense in relation to this mod (Examples being immortals/undead). Here is a list of compatibility changes I've added from my end:

-Ideology compatibility allowing the biosculpter's Bioregeneration cycle to remove Old Age and Degradation.
-Biotech compatibility preventing pawns with the Non-senescent gene from getting Old Age and Degradation.
-O21 Celestials compatibility to prevent pawns with the Celestial hediff from getting Old Age and Degradation.
-Big and Small Genes compatibility preventing pawns with the Deathlike Body gene from getting Old Age and Degradation.

Q: Will you continue to work on this?
A: The mod is feature complete, but I may tweak values based on feedback or add compatibility to other mods.

Never mind just read the compatibilities, definitely will be using this mod now.

The effect is simply a birthday present and thus depends on the life expectancy.
Ageless pawns never have a birthday and are immune and genes like non-senesence are patched to grand immunity to the effect.

There is however one oddity i noticed with "Block unwanted minutia".
If the birthday message is blocked from appearing the effect is applied anyway if it would normaly be blocked with a hediff (like diseases are block from Peno)

Question, will this affect xenotypes that are functionally immortal or long lived like Space Marines or angelic beings?

Your comment made my day, thank you!

I don't think I can ever not play with this mod, no matter if I am doing a generation save or just my normal 4x age rate I use this mod. Just having the chance a pawn can die from old age is such a good story opportunity.

Thank you for making one of my favorite flavor mods.

@Mevolander
I would've liked it to behave like that in some way, but it would've required C# knowledge. Instead it has a fixed progression which is slowed or reversed depending on tend quality.

Does the severity of old age increase as the pawn ages?

Last thing I could suggest is a complete clean install (game, mods, configs). I've had to do this on a couple game version updates before to fix lingering issues when applying a major game update like 1.5. Essentially you uninstall the game and clear any remaining files from it's directory, clear out the workshop folder for it, and also clear the game's configs from your appdata (C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\LocalLow\Ludeon Studios). Then reinstall the game and mods. Totally understand if you'd prefer to simply switch mods though, reconfiguring an entire modlist is a real pain in the rear.
