Description
Inspired by "Reskin Trifang into a Combat Drone MK1", this mod resprites space encounter enemies with a smattering of sprites from classic shmup Tyrian.[en.wikipedia.org] In its current form, only a few enemies have been resprited; the intent is to eventually resprite most space encounter enemies (with the exceptions of Astrofae and maybe Heavy Drones). Turrets will have to wait a while. Similarly to Heavy Drones, turrets are made up of multiple parts, and I'm still learning how to work with and align multi-part monsters.

This is a simple resprite mod, with light animation adjustments when necessary. This will not change the combat capabilities or loot drops of any enemies.

Version 1.0 makes the following changes:
  • Trifangle - replaced by U-Ships with spinning animation
  • Masteroids - replaced by asteroids according to size
  • Cosmostache - replaced by Carrot Ships

Version 1.1 brings:
  • Rustick - Sprite and beam replaced

Version 1.2
  • Chiropterror - Sprite replaced

Version 1.3
  • Spinemine - Sprite replaced

Shout out to I Want to MECHANIZE That Van for letting me pilot a combat van.

Compatibility
Since this is a resprite, this mod is incompatible with any mod that also resprites space encounter enemies.

...now I feel compelled to make some of the Tyrian weapons into mech weapons.

Or just the Banana Blast.

I'm still working on it, while also bouncing between a Tyrian 2000 playthrough and working on a couple other small mods. The hard part is finding encounters to test the sprite replacements once they've been made; I actually have a Rustick replacement (including a new beam sprite) in the pipe, but for the life of me I'm turning up empty when trying to find them in the wild.

As to the heavy drones, we'll see. I'm mostly creating this mod as a small improvement to my limited spriting abilities (cutting and aligning sheets, adjusting .frames files), and I haven't looked into the heavy drone to see if it's made of parts (the way turrets are), which will be a challenge for me right now. But I'm trying.

I mean, the Cosmostache was already pretty ridiculous, so I felt they were the perfect target for the carrot ship sprite. Fits their ramming attack, too.
