Description
BJShrine, also know as CBP1 (Community Build Project 1).
First released 18th April 2001

CBP maps are maps created by several mappers. However, contrary to all the next CBP maps, the first didn't consist of new creations, but rather of parts of already existing usermaps (after a small part of Hollywood Holocaust).

It is not as creative and consistent as the next CBPs, but it still is worth checking out as it involved some of the best mappers of Duke3D usermap history.

Mappers involved :
Blackjack (from map The Fantasy Hotel)
Maarten (from map The Restless Resort)
Dukebert (from map YoHoHo)
C3PO (the C4-detonation effect from map Fruit Loops)
Cyborg (from first level of 'Incubation' episode)
Kat (from map Docking Doom)
Bob Averill (from map BobSP2)
Chris Allcock (from map ChrisDM6)
Pascal Rouaud (from map Bob_Sc1)
Turpuli (from S-A)
Mikko Sandt (from map MSSP6)
Billy Boy (parts from Cranium)
Nutwrench (from City Of Screams)
Robert Travis (from map Beta Two
Greg Hoyer (map GJHoyer)
JS (from map Blastm)

Another one of these could probably be put together. One would have to take into consideration that it would only be proper to contact the mapper that made a desired section to get permission to use it.
There are only so many active and/or contactable mappers these days. It would limit the number of levels to chose from.

In retrospect, it's pretty cool and fitting that the old community (Dukeworld era) came up with the very first CBP but CBP2 was already a product of the new community. Dukeworld's demise pretty much single-handedly wiped out the old community but also paved the way for the emergence of the new.

Lunick's right though it would be pretty interesting to have a new version of this type of CBP with the best parts of maps from the last decade or so. The problem is there's probably too much to choose from, not to mention several of the interesting bits and pieces may be quite large and resource-hungry.

It's playable, but the interconnection between sections can get ugly at times. Basically the individual pieces were pulled straight out of the original maps and placed directly into this one, so you get some parts that are at a completely different elevations than others. The end result is you get a bunch of pretty much unrelated chunks of maps cheaply connected with elevators, teleporters and drop shafts.

Is this even meant to be playable? Or was it more of a showcase?

Played this one again. I have to agree that the flow does feel strange but I would like to see something like this again in the future, maybe after Duke Hard? ;)

When the concept first hit the community, the idea was to pull the "best" pieces out of one of your already made maps. That's why this one is rather disjointed and has a weird flow.

Wow, I can recognise a lot of the maps used in this one :)
