NPC Revoice Sound Fixes

Description
I like using custom content for Black Mesa, but when I use a few of them, they do have some things that I want to correct. So, I made sound fixes for a few selected sounds as well as my version of Citizen⁵'s fixed English Captions.

The alternate NPC sounds came from other Workshop addons and they are required for this fix pack. If you are subscribed to addons like the Half-Life Alyx Headcrab Sound Replacement addon, you can use one of these fixes for your Black Mesa experience. You don't have to use all of the required Sound Replacements for this fix pack.

Once you subscribe to this addon, you must find the following SteamLibrary directory:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\362890\2394563507
All of the altered sounds are placed in folders. You can remove the .vpks from the folder or put it in the "custom" folder.

  • Added Headcrab sounds for the windows of the conference room scene. It also includes a muffled version of the sound replacement for those using the Unforeseen Consequences Chapter Overhaul

  • Made original sound names for the Headcrab sounds in case some sound scrips or maps may want to use that .wav sound. A good example is when you turn on the microwave with the headcrab inside in map "bm_c1a1b"

  • Made version for Blue Shift chapter Duty Calls when one Guard dies to a Headcrab using The Necrotic's[gamebanana.com] HLA Headcrab Sounds as a base.[gamebanana.com]

  • Filtered the Enemy Down lines and Death sounds for those using the Extended Captions and Dialogue addon

  • Added unfiltered HGrunt sounds in the "hecu_grunt" folder so the sounds can play in maps "bm_c2a3a", "bm_c2a5h", and "bm_c2a5i"

  • Filtered the Grunt throw scene in map "bm_c2a5h" and mixed with the updated Alien Grunt sounds

  • Filtered the Further Data and Stojkeholm grunt lines

  • Compatible with my other addon: HECU Scripted Dialogue Fix

  • Reworked Blast Pit lines to be compatible with the captions

  • Missing sounds (with typos) are now added with HL1 VOX voice to be compatible with mods with VOX sounds

  • Hazard Course PA replaced with HL1 VOX voice

  • Alternate VOX Takeover sound (Edited to fit with the Fixed Captions timing)

  • Modified the sentence script to be compatible with VOX announcements for Office Complex, We Got Hostiles, Blast Pit, Questionable Ethics, and Lambda Core based on other VOX announcements mods like Chapter Overhaul

EAS:
  • Sign Out sound edited to be similar to real life. Citizen⁵'s fixed captions actually did a better version of the sound, so I made it into a separate sound replacement.

From searching, recreating Starscre4M's HECU radio filter in Audacity are the following:
[Filter Curve] 24Db at 1,000Hz
[High Pass Filter] 1,000Hz, 12dB Rolloff
[Pitch Change] -9.979

(It may be too loud while processing it, so what I do is export the loud file first, then turn it amplify it, or use a limiter, and then Mix and Render it. Or, to make it easier on you, I included an Audacity macro to speed up the process. Find it in the text file inside the VPK file.)

As for the Extended Captions and Dialogue, I personally preferred using it, but there are certain intentional changes that I do not personally like. So I added and tweaked certain captions to my liking to be more like Half-Life 2's captions and added more fixes that were overlooked. Changes such as adding Death Sounds to the Security Guard as CitizenFive's addon was lacking it in the sound script, Hazard Course Tram caption tweaks and more.
They can be found in the "[ExtendedCaptionsDialogue - Edited].vpk" file.

I also edited the Blue Shift captions myself to be similar to CitizenFive's Black Mesa fixed captions as well all the way up to Focal Point. If you are using the Blue Shift captions fix, I recommend adding the Base Black Mesa captions fix to the bshift custom folder as well.

Wasn't gonna ask for that regardless, no worries

And no, I have no plans to make a HL1 VOX for Blue Shift right now. Sorry.

Besides, the original line in the Half-Life VOX is "Turret maintenance team to Central Command and Communication Center." The Black Mesa Fixed Captions shortened it to "Turret Maintenance Team to Command and Communications Center."

Yes. But I'm not going to make any more changes by this point as it's only one small change.

Right. Also, I noticed there is a vanilla VOX styled line in the Edited Extended Captions, should there be a classic VOX version for it?

It could be the workshop addons you installed. Try disabling one of the addons, and then test the game to see what happens.

No. I don't remember. It's not really my problem, but you can check the addons you install. The Blast Pit tentacle animation sync in HL1 was tweaked days after the 25th Anniversary Update. I don't see any issue regarding the animations.

I've also had issues similar to what I just described, like the scientist in the office at the end of WGH will do his 'quote-unquote' gesture a solid 1 or 2 seconds after he actually says "containment". Or the glitch with the scientist being dragged away by the tentacle in Blast Pit not syncing up similarly to original HL1

Btw this has nothing to do with the mod but just a general Black Mesa thing, have you ever had moments with human NPCs where they'll interrupt one of their voice lines, cutting it off and then playing the new one pre-maturely? If so, is there any fix or cause for that?

Everything seems to work fine
