Elderly Generals Retire

Description
This mod gives characters over the age of 55 a 10% chance per turn to 'retire'

What is retirement?
Retirement makes a character "non-deployable" - like the Emperor/ Eunuchs from Mandate of Heaven.

How does it work?
When characters (who are not deployed as a general) hit the age of 55, each turn, they have a 10% chance to retire. When this happens, you will be presented a message "A Warrior Rests their Sword".

Characters who happen to be deployed as generals act a bit differently due to a limitation in the game. For these, when they hit the age of 55, they get a 10% chance each turn to be wounded for 2 turns resulting from an accident due to their fragility in age. You will get a message "A Warrior Falters"

This will continue to occur for as long as they are deployed, making them somewhat unreliable. When you can afford to replace them as a general, you should consider bringing them back to court - where they will then "roll" for retirement as outlined above.

Hope you enjoy!

It's been a while, but I finally noticed that this had updated so I decided to try it out again. No problems, everything works as it should and people don't break their legs or die from supervising cattle ranchers. Great job!

OK, i need to test it, but it should be entirely possible to ensure administrators no longer get injured!

I noted the issue with administrators myself recently. I might be able to put in conditions to stop this happening. I am also thinking of adding some form of "benefit" for having retired generals in your court so you don't just fire the old bois. Possibly a small faction wide experience bonus as they go around teaching the young'uns!

I love the idea of this mod, and have played with it, but there is one aspect of it that makes this less than optimal for me: The face that the base game counts Administrators as active generals.

Because Administrators are treated in the same way that active generals are, this means that have any 55+ year old as an Administrator and not removing them is basically rolling the dice for their inevitable death. It's rather disheartening having, for example, Guan Yu survive to a ripe old age, giving him an administrator position somewhere in your empire, only for him to die because the stress of filing taxes or supervising rice farmers gave him a heart attack.

I'm not a modder, so wouldn't know if this is a hard coded behaviour. But I just wanted to raise this issue. I think this mod has a great concept, and I look forward to seeing what can be done with it.

Hey, great stuff! But what about generals like Huang Zhong and Huang Gai? They were both famous for being elderly field generals, could you perhaps attempt to exclude them from this mod? Or have you already done so?

This was something I originally wanted to do - however it doesn't seem to be possible with the method I have right now.

I love this mod, can I suggest having the pop up window say which general is retiring if possible?

It is exactly the same for the AI. I'm not sure how the AI responds to wounded generals - but it is aware of non-deployable characters.

How does this work with AI?

Retired characters can not be generals. They can still be active members in your court, like the Eunuchs, Emperor and Empress in the mandate of heaven campaign.
