ICNG

Description
The Intercity Nieuwe Generatie (Intercity New Generation), or ICNG is an electric multiple unit trainset planned to be operated by Nederlandse Spoorwegen for high-speed (up to 200 km/h) intercity services in the Netherlands and Belgium. It is built by Alstom in Poland based on their Coradia Stream platform. The first train arrived in the Netherlands on the 23rd of May 2020 to begin testing on the Dutch railway network, and it is planned to enter into service in 2022. NS originally ordered 49 5-car sets and 30 8-car sets, later topped up by 18 8-car sets also able to serve internationally in Belgium.

This mod supports mod schema v2 and comes with three EMU setups: single EMU, two coupled units, and three coupled units. NS has announced plans to use the two coupled units option specifically with a 5 car set and an 8 car set together. The mod allows the use of 1-6 intermediate cars in all options to simulate this. This mod aims to mimick the real technical specifications of the train as much as possible; sources are listed below as not all is known yet for this new train type.

Stats
  • Max speed: 200 km/h.
  • Length: 110m for the 5 car sets and 164m for the 8 car sets based on Wikipedia.
  • Power: 2545KW for 5-car set and 3390KW for 8-car set, based on reported power for ICNG on Somda (post 2019-12-01 12:31).
  • Mass: 185t for a 5 car set and 260t for the 8 car set. No ICNG data available, estimated based on closest siblings, the Italian ETR 104 'POP' EMU which has per FR wiki 118.5t 3-car and 143.5t 4-car sets, enabling a calculation for locs and cars which is then scaled to the ICNG as the overall length per car is a bit longer.
  • Price: $11.4m for the 5 car set and $13.3m for the 8 car set. Based on public reported cost: €800m for the original 49 5-car sets and 30 8-car sets, and €200m for the additional 18 8-car sets, using EUR USD at 1.2.
  • Capacity: 259 for the 5 car sets and 418 for the 8 car sets. Based on Wikipedia. Rounding at the car level means this is 1 higher than in reality.
  • Running cost: 0.1 per km per pax and 500 per day. Based on their annual report, costs per km per pax for NS in the Netherlands are higher than the in game 0.05, at around €0.09. (3.3bn total opex ex infra, half of which is in the UK so 1.6bn, on 19bn pax km on the Dutch net.) Using 1.2 EUR USD I got 0.1. The base maintenance per day cost of 500 is not material and I ignored.

Gameplay
All of the above stats are allocated to the loc and car game units such that the actually planned 5 car sets and 8 car sets have the correct stats. If you create 3 or 4 car sets it will be a bit overpowered, although arguably the 8 unit as a whole is underpowered in reality with probably quite slow acceleration.

This train has quite low pax capacity for its length compared to other options in game. That is intentional and also the case in reality. For example, the car 8 set is 165m long and carries 418 pax. a coupled set of an 8 car and a 5 car set (a combination NS has announced they will probably use) is a 275m long train but carries just 677 pax.

Compared to the base game trains this set is a bit cheaper, but it follows the actually reported cost for the real trains.
