GeTA Sulfur - U20C "Ghetto Sulfur"

The GeTA Sulfur railway (Geo-thermal Tranz Alpine) owns one uniquely commissioned locomotive.
This is a modified U20C with additional air cooling and window protection bars attached.

Around the start of the diesel era the GeTA Sulfur railway purchased this single locomotive for a very specific use.
It is used for operation within the hazardous areas of the Hotrocks mine, which has active volcanic activity.

The window bars are for added protection from flying rocks from volcanic activity, and the air conditioning is to help both the driver and engine operate under extreme heat conditions.

Thanks to the window bars, this loco has gained the nickname "Ghetto Sulfur" by railway crew, as window bars (AKA ghetto bars) are usually used for protection from vandals in urban areas.

Despite newer motive power being bought by the railway, this unique U20C still operates to this day in the hazardous areas of the Hotrocks mine.
